That was a fantastic deal. I recently saw a presentation from McAfee.... I think they may finally really be making a comeback. I hope so.
McAfee still has a lot of potential. Realistically, though, I think that they would benefit now from dropping the McAfee branding.

I have a active license for most products, but yet on my 3 PCs I run McAfee. On the 2 Macs I run Avast free. McAfee has done very well. Personally I just don't notice it and for me, still has the least impact on my PC.
Last ran it few months back but very impressed with results. I know one thing....they certainly have had a strong business sales & marketing staff as it has been everywhere I worked the last 15 years in the energy field. I'm sure Intel will only enhance the product.
I have a free 1 year license coupon that I didn't use because I hate AVs that come with stupid optimizers and McAfee AV Plus has one All I want is an AV with no bloat and nothing else to mess with my system.

Is Siteadvisor required to stop web threats and malicious websites? I don't like it and prefer to install Mcafee without it.
My problem with McAfee is more about issues with Intel as their parent company, and other things. 1) Auto-Renewal horror stories. 2) Killing lifetime PAID users of PasswordBox. 3) McAfee is reported to be working VERY closely with US Govt. Actors. 4) They reportedly called Finfisher folks to 'ensure' their product doesn't detect it. All of those things lead me to where I would likely never, ever install this product. Although their gateway tech seems on the rise in capabilities.

There have been discussions on Wilders in the past on the topic of security vendor cooperation with governments. Based on a variety of reports, the short answer on this seems to be that if you are going to use this as a criterion for selecting a product, then you probably will end up wanting to use a product not produced by a US, UK, Russian, or Chinese company. On the topic of American-produced security products, information leaked by Edward Snowden and others appears to indicate that several products either willingly cooperate with the NSA and other intel agencies or have been "back-doored." Some companies such as F-Secure, ESET, and Avira have made strong statements about their unwillingness to work with governments. I take those companies at their word, but who knows if their products are immune to government hacking. So, switching from McAfee to another product may not make any difference on the specific issue you mention. This is a really depressing topic.
Those companies that work with the governments of the US, UK, NZ, CAN, AUS... they are our friends. They are the good guys. They are trying to help and protect us all. Unless you are AQ or IS or MILF or some other undesirable.. Bravo to all security companies who care about us, our security, our ability to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Live long and prosper. We should all ONLY buy products from companies that work with the good guys. Even with all that... I would not buy McAfee. I've given up on them. Intel has owned them since 2011 and McAfee has gone nowhere. They are in a perpetual cycle of sucktitude. But... I get McAfee free and have a friend who works there... so I will continue to run it on one old computer for reasons other than the quality of the product. don't you all think you are being a little hard on your AV provider. Think of all the other ways they could gather info if they wanted to about your habits on the internet. Your browser vendor, your search engine vendor and possibly your DSL provider.
You don't need to let the NSA thing bother you. McAfee is helping the good guys, helping to protect you. So you can use McAfee with confidence that you are on the right team. Many, not all, governments are basically good. They are like your alcoholic half-brother. Sometimes loses his way, but basically a good guy. McAfee, Trend, Norton, Webroot, and other right-thinking companies are on the right side of history. They protect your computer, while they also cooperate to protect your life. Cheers to the good-guy AVs. But for you.... you should probably hide under your bed. Because the government is out to get you. I don't blame them. Yep.
If it is seriously bothering you and you feel like there are companies out there you can really trust, then you should switch. Otherwise you are just going to keep worrying about it. You could at least try out a few other products and see if they even work for you. As a brief aside to the comments above, I think that for some United States citizens, this comes down to a matter of legal principle and basic rights as outlined in the US Constitution and not whether one thinks the government is monitoring all of their electronic communications or whether the government is good or bad. There are numerous limits placed on the US government by the Constitution and a fair number of American citizens feel that intelligence agencies have gone far across the legal line with their monitoring programs. These are tough issues but it is great that people can talk about them. Dialogue and education are generally the best ways to achieve understanding and move forward. Of course, discussion can be hard when a big player is wrapped in necessary secrecy.
Good Morning! In all fairness I still have some time on a license with McAfee I.S.2015. I found it unobtrusive and relatively bloat free on my system. The only qualm I had with it was when a Full System Scan was run...it was slow and consequently on the Lengthy side. But overall I believe they're moving in the right direction. This year they've improved greatly in the Detection and Removal of Malware. And if it's any indicator have scored respectably in various testing by major testing organizations. I like a number of individuals would like to remove the McAfee name and replace it with simply Intel Security. I might reinstall the I.S.Suite and keep it till expiration and I'll keep everyone up to date on it's performance...Hopefully. Lol! Egads...I've got four long months to go...wish me Patience! McAfee has improved, but it still needs a little something to change it from a decent to an exceptional product. That being said, I no longer think that a PC with McAfee installed is in danger.

Good Morning! Charyb! Everything is running smoothly so far! It's still in it's early assessment stages...so stay tuned. Just a surface opinion on my part. I know Intel can improve the overall look and use of ease of the product. Set up is a Royal pain...way to lengthy...and obtrusive in asking for info that has more to do with Profiling, than Ease of use...and protecting the Customers sense of Privacy. Intel has a Golden Opportunity to Cultivate a Superior product and most importantly Superior Relationship building with it's Customer. Sincerely...Securon
