When I have a backup of the system partition I can't restore it while in Windows, I get that, but can I "start" the restore from Windows so that it automatically boots into the Recovery media (have it set up to be a boot menu option) and begins the restore without me actually having to do anything after it boots into the recovery media? (I know I'm probably using the "media" word wrong there but I don't know what else to call the boot thingie) Essentially I want to be able to open Reflect, click restore, highlight the image, click the option to restore the image and go through the stuffs and then it reboots into the proper recovery media and does everything by itself from there on, is it possible or do I have to manually go into the recovery media each time?
SanyaIV, that function should work fine in a fully licensed environment. Once you're licensed, you need to use the "Other Tasks" option and select "Add a BOOT menu option to start the Reflect Recovery Environment." This will create the needed BOOT menu item for automatic recovery of your SYSTEM volume. During the recovery process, a small window will be offered where an "Automatic BOOT option" will be available... make sure it's checked then hit the "Run from WindowsPE" button... the automatic process should begin. You should make use of their on-line USER'S GUIDE... here's a SECTION on exactly what you're trying to do. I can't test this yet as I'm still running the TRIAL version.
It works just like that. I have the paid Home version and I just did a restore. Reflect gave me the option to boot into PE mode to do the restore and from there, it was all hands off. It booted into PE, did the restore and then rebooted into Windows when it was done. From start to end, about 10 minutes.
Thanks Froggie~ I tried the user guide but couldn't find what I was looking for, simply because I missed that you could expand "Restoring an image from within Windows" which would show "Restoring a System image from Windows" my bad. Thanks for confirming MarcP
Support has stated to me that their aim is to have a major new release every 12-months... they already have a road map of new features for this year.
Nothing wrong with that as long as they don't fall into the Acronis mentality (2 updates per year and if your bug isn't fixed before the next major version is out, tough luck... pay).
I know that this has been asked already, but I wanted to confirm. Those of you who have installed v6, have you installed over top of v5.3 or have you un-installed v5.3 and done a fresh install of v6?
It does not work for me. I have a paid version. When I try to restore using this method, ie, using the Boot Manager, I get a black screen, entitled Windows Boot Manager, stating that Windows failed to start. It further states to Insert Win CD, Restart or Repair. Status: 0xc000000f I can restore using my Flash drive, but not from the Macrium restore screen when I boot where it offers a choice between Win 8.1 and Macrium. Has anyone else experienced this?
Just out of curiosity, would you share your Backup Plan so far? Mine: GFS Grandfather-Father-Son: Full 4 backups, Differential 5 backups, Incremental 10 backups.

Anyone using AX64 along with Macrium v6 ? Everything OK with AX64, however, with Macrium when I use the Boot Manager to restore instead of Flash USB drive, I get a stop error when I try to boot from Macrium on C drive. No problem when booting from flash drive.
I hope that they do not go this route. If they really follow a yearly upgrade cycle I'll never recommend it to anyone. Meaningful upgrades, like the current from 5 to 6, is one thing but yearly upgrades like those of Acronis', Paragon's and Norton's (for the last decade) is another... unless in the first 2-3 months when a new major version is released they give huge discounts (80%) on existing licences. Existing price + online activations + yearly cost = they'll lose the home market that they build all these years. Panagiotis
I think they will. Software vendors love this "quasi-subscription" model. At least, until they implement the "full-subscription" model.
I am not surprised that they're trying a sustainable revenue model. When I bought Macrium Reflect v5 three years ago, I benefited from 3 years of free updates and free support (email or forum). Not very financially viable to a company. Given past interactions with the company, I don't expect them to suddenly turn cold and rigid. I think they're testing the waters and I have confidence they'll find a middle ground as opposed to go full Acronis on us. Maybe I'm naive, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
i would also be a bit upset about that. but imo if they keep the renewal cost much lower then it is now it could be okay, but imo im not paying 60-100$ each year ill move on for sure after this year if they go that way.
Does anyone know why MR creates a "rescuepe.log" on my external hard-drive that isn't set up anywhere I can find in MR? I have my source as C drive and destination as D drive yet the rescuepe.log file is saved on my E drive? I'm confused, where do I change this? =S

Panagiotis, I'm trying to get a hold of that "road map" they mention to see if the features they have planned for the next cycle are really gonna be worth it. I really do like v6, though...
