Hi Panagiotis You were interested in a stress test with high levels of I/O. Well I inadvertently did one. I had another imaging program I was just fooling with and it was running an incremental when the automatic MRv6 incremental hit. It took longer 5 min instead of 1 min. but it completed and the image was good it restored fine. Got a love it. Pete
Someone asked about the impact of a long Incremental chain. My standard restore time has been about 5:50minutes. I let the chain go to 30 incrementals and did a restore. Time 6:00 minutes. Not to bad.
Thank you Pete. Excellent results. Macrium for sure has raised the bar a bit higher in the imaging app world. Panagiotis
No worries, the MSR partition will be automatically added during restore, and rest assured you will also have your original partition layout as well. Acronis TI is a robust program. I used it on tons of systems, UEFI, MBR, all worked.
I finally found time to test Macrium v6. Since a long time I wanted to exclude some temp folders from my backups. I often listen music or watch video via Chrome. So the cache's browser can become pretty big and I see no need to backup this. Because I do not think that it's possible to exclude files and folders when I create a image of my partition C, I think that the best solution would be to use symbolic link to move temp folders to another partition. English is not my first language and I'm a little confused about the following settings -> Backup -> Reparse Points. Reparse points is another name for symbolic link, right? Knowing that I do NOT want to backup the files and folders, what option do I need to choose? Follow or Do Not Follow? What are the difference between System and User reparse points? I'm guessing that the symbolic link I create myself are User reparse point...?
Question: How does MR v6 handle bare metal restore? For example, lets say I have an SDD on exactly 500GB and lets say that is in three partitions of 300GB, 50GB and 150GB and I use the system backup that backups all three partitions, then lets say I remove all partitions so I am left with 1 partition on 500GB which is unallocated, Will MR be able to recreate the partitions and restore them correctly? What if the drive itself is somewhat smaller, like 400GB? (lets say the actual data on the drive that was backed up is less than 400GB)
Now its possible to upgrade to final V6 . http://www.macrium.com/product/product/pages/features.aspx V6 Home edition cost 69$ with one year updates! Upgrade is 35 $ for me
Does that mean that MR v6 has been officially released now? As in, the build on there is considered stable? Even then the 70 USD price tag is above my limit, if it was half of that then I'd buy it right now, maybe even for 50 but 70 is just too much for me. Then again I have no income.... that might be a factor... I'll stick to AX64 for now though, hopefully MR v6 will be on a sale sometime, do they do sales?
How does updates work for Macrium Reflect? If I were to buy version 6, do I also get updates up until version 7 for free? If not, then the current asking price of 70 USD is even less attractive..
If you want the Rolls Royce you have to pay for it,,,,I guess,,,,, Shadow Protect is more expansive at $99, not that that makes me feel better as I have to get my friends on to Macrium instead of AX64 and was planning to use the free version for them. As to the price in general,,,,as Pete said,,,,,,HOW MUCH IS YOUR SYSTEM/DATA WORTH TO YOU? If you can share 4 pack licenses among friends then that would be the way to go I think. Two sets of licenses and all my friends in this situation would be covered. Free for them would be better as they have bought AX64 on my say so.
Well given what they've added to this version, I am not surprised that the price is also up. I tried to see about upgrades but got nowhere. Just they said to contact.
Hi BG! We don't know yet what the FREE version will include, but in the past both DIFFERENTIAL and INCREMENTAL imaging were NOT INCLUDED, only FULL. This time around they may give you DIF and INC but leave out RDR (Rapid Data Restore). If that was the case, it won't be a very useful snapshot tool (speedy), although it will be functional for those purposes. We'll have to wait and see...
Well, as far as the price goes, you should try to Google Macrium Coupon. There are many 20% off ones.
Manage to get a upgrade directly from the Internet site. Now can I install it "over the top" from V5 or is it recommended to make a clean install?
I decided to use a 20% off coupon and got it down to ~55 USD and I can accept that so decided to buy it. Thanks for the tip MPSAN. Now, anyone know the answers to my questions in post #1161? Edit: Also saved a little by actually paying in USD rather than my local currency.. Only about 3-4 USD but that's better than nothing.
