Yes it is regrettable but still, I would rather have 2 programs to choose from rather than to have to settle for the only one that is on offer. I also suspect we will see more of the AXTM sort of "innovation" from other companies coming on-line not too far down the road. It is a shame that AXTM seems to have given their "first out of the gate" advantage away though.

EDIT: I was just thinking that the little info that we have on the new Macrium product says that times to image and revert (delta) are reduced by UP TO 90%. So lets say it is 90% (I will give them that but...) so if it takes me 1.5 hours to do a normal cold restore that means 10 min or so to do a new Macrium one. AXTM is considerably faster than that on a hot restore revert to a resent snap. It will be interesting to see what Macrium does really deliver in the real world. Marketing is one thing, reality is often another.

Yes, you are right (especially the last sentence).
But at least there are movements out there. Now, is there any results? Let's wait.
And let's not forget that speed & reliability need to be balanced out.

Here it says 90% OR MORE:

    Macrium Reflect

I agree about restore speed - for instance AX64 can be very quick indeed with a short chain, but V2 with 10+ hourly incrementals is very slow...

Well I've completely removed AX64 altogether. I went back to my combo of ShadowProtect, Raxco IR, and ShadowDefender. It gives me some standard to compare the new Macrium. I'll post details in the Macrium Thread.

Pete, Are you running Win 7 or Win 8 (8.1)? Remind me which version of AX64 were you using that you had great success with?

I'll be purchasing a new computer soon with Win 8.1 and I'm curious which version has been the best with Win 8.1?! Thanks.

    Hi Alexhousek

On my lenovo laptop, and one desktop I was running beta 548. On my other desktop I was running 528. Also I've run it in a Win 10 VM. I have a win 8.1 vm but haven't tested much there. If you can get a win 7 machine I would. You can upgrade to 10 if you want when it's released.

I can test 548 in my win8.1 machine, but it doesn't have near the software the others do.

Also at this point, I would not purchase any AX64 TM licenses.

    Pete

I tried installing in my Win 8.1 VM. Couldn't install 548. Got the beta expired message. Had no way to even install a regular key. Beta is still offered on the website. Given when I did make contact I told them it was vital that they come here and at least update us. Since they haven't and given the state of things, I am assuming AX64 is dead until they at least come here and update us.

Even if you have it installed on a paid license it ceased working. Well done(NOT) guys. And these clowns won't even come here and talk to us.

It's really sad. Isso had it made until he gave it to these guys. They have a few weeks until it's over. :(

Zat so, re Reflect. Well thanks, am hoping it will take place. The Macrium Reflect is I think the best. Also really like the Time Machine, v2 (now expired) and also v1. Hope the TM Co. can get their present difficulties taken care of. And if it has to do with a worker having left, maybe hire a new and even better one.

Select "Create Recovery Media" from the main window, then <click> on the "Install" button (not "Start"). The other selections are for creating external RECOVERY MEDIA only.

PS- and remember, if you want to unINSTALL AXTM, use the above option window to do an "Uninstall" of the "Local Storage" BEFORE you unINSTALL AXTM.

Too bad they've fallen on hard times. One of the better product offerings if they could get all the issues ironed out and decent pricing. Hopefully they can find a good replacement coder but probably a pipe dream.

To Mr. Froggie (aka S.E. MC) In the AXTM v1, when I click the "Install" button (to create pre boot option), get a popup "Please insert your Windows installation CD and click OK." Don't have such a disk. Not sure what's going on.

Yes that's right. The Time Machine Co. folks are the most wonderful in the world...so long as they give us just what we want, and when we want it.
But let them falter or delay even once (how dare they stop our version 2) Let's get em! string em up.

    Yupper?

Sorry my friend but you don't get it. In the service or a business that offers a product/service I am afraid it is all but giving people what the (want/paid for) I can accept delays, as that can be very normal, but when I contact them to see what is going on and suggest they come to the forums, to just let people what is up, and the don't do it, that I can not accept. If I did that in my business I wouldn't have a business in a very short time.

The question I am forced to ask, is did the problems come up that caused the loss of the developer, OR, did they cause the loss of the developer. I don't know, but each is a possibility.

Also since we/I were helping provide feedback on the latest beta let the beta license expire, and allow a purchased key to continue it, but to just leave us high and dry with no communication is not acceptable.

Hang in there timmy, you will learn.

Timmy, v1 looks for a special file, placed on your system when Windows was first built, called WinRE.wim... it's the Windows RECOVERY ENVIRONMENT. Some OEMs remove that file (for whatever reason, I do not know), and when that happens, v1 cannot build the recovery environment. Instead it asks for the standard Windows distribution for building a Windows system.

Apparently your system does not have such a file on it. If you've ever had Rollback RX on your system, that app will rename that file and then no one can find it.

What OS are you running on your system? Maybe we can find a Windows distribution on-line that you can use for this purpose.
