Defrag

How often do you defrag and with what?

 

Probably once a week. Though it varies, if I had installed/uninstalled big programs or if my computer feels slow and cleanup doesn't help much.
I'm using Auslogic Diskdefrag free now.

 

HDD approx. once a month, SSD never. I use Defraggler.

 

More often than not, when I reboot (which is only every few days or so). I'm running O&O Defrag, and it has the option to do a boot time defrag before logging into Windows. There is the option to skip or abort the scan, which I use when I'm in a hurry to start Windows. Because of the boot time defrag, I don't run O&O in Windows, just at boot.

 

Once every thread I see about defragging because that's when I remember about it.

 

Whenever Windows thinks it is the time for defragging~

 

2-3 times per week with the Windows 8.1 own Defragmentation Tool.

 

I have not ran a defrag for about a 18 months or so since an SSD upgrade. The HDD i use for storage and media has never received a defrag since purchase a couple of years ago. Still going strong. Windows just says 1% defrag. So i dont think its worth it as i dont want to risk it ruining my backups.

I have ALL SSDs so NEVER.

 

I defrag the data partition once or twice a year. The system partition is almost static and doesn't need regular defragging. The built in defragmenter is sufficient.

Haven't defraged in awhile. Good thing I saw this thread to remind me. Used the Windows tool last night to defrag.

 

I have a 64bit Win 8.1 operating system. Win 8 defrags every week automatically, but I still do it occasionally when my system seems to be running slow.

 

Windows 7 should be defragging it with its scheduled weekly defrag.

Yes correct but i have disabled the auto windows defrag features of W7 for several reasons;

-This HDD is predominantly for storage of backups and images and media ( music, movies etc).
-Never really trusted windows defrag capabilities
-Afraid my images and backups would be messed up with a defrag.

The built in defragmenter is excellent and won't corrupt your files, nor will any 3rd party defragmenters.

 

Okay that gives me some ease. But what about hourly incremental images from AX64 where chains are important to keep in tact?

Unless you disable ScheduledDefrag, a Windows default setting in Task Scheduler, you don’t need to defrag.

I have it disabled.

Every once in a blue moon when I have to reboot for something, I run Defraggler, view the files, sort on Fragment, select everything ten fragments and up and defrag those. Usually takes about 2 minutes.

 

100% SSD's in the house. We don't Defrag.

 

Defragging won't affect that - your backups will be fine.

I use similar approach. I always defrag fragmented files only (2 and above fragments) and skip large files (movies, system backups...).

 

Guys, I use too IObit defrag, but I have problem. I run the defrag and it stucks at about defragging from 8,72 to 8,32 after about one hour and it says it's do, any ideas?
