Ok, thanks to both of you (last 2 posts)....

 

Great! Currently running 8 Pro as a VM - this vindicates my decision to bypass 8.1 and wait for 10. (here's hoping that 'somehow' a freebie ISO will be made available)

 

If you upgrade within 365 days from launch, you get it free. If you wait, you will have to buy it instead.

 

With Windows it might be wiser to wait those 365 days and actually buy it. I'd rather not be a test pilot for MS, even for free. I learned my lesson with Vista. In fact, it might be better to wait 730+ days!

 

Aren't the tech previews already the "testing"?

 

I'm not so sure with MS. It usually takes them at least a year with any new OS to iron the bugs out.

 

I'll be using it from day 1. It will be added to WinXP, Win7, Win8.11 and the Win 10 Tech Preview already on my SSD.

 

Me too. I will also add the next build to my VM which is soon to be released in the next week. Can't wait.

And wondering about hololens pans out. Looks too interesting. Maybe i will buy if it is what they say

 

I can't agree with this Daveski17... Vista was like that, but Win 7 was absolutely great and really clean out the door. 8, if you discount the dislike for Metro, was equally clean as far as the OS internals go. If they don't release 10 till this fall, I think it will most likely be fantastic.

 

Yeah, I agree, Win 7 is great. I still waited a year before I bought it though.

 

No way I'm going to pay. I think I will wait about 6 to 9 months.

 

Have not read everything yet, but it sounds a bit weird. Will there be no Windows 11 and 12?

 

LOL! Yeah, it is tempting isn't it? If it's offered in an update I may even consider it ... maybe.

 

I'm not worried about issues when they release it. There have been some Windows Update issues lately but I haven't had a problem with a new OS release since Vista. Windows really hasn't changed a lot since then, where Vista was a huge update from XP. I'll be installing it as soon as I can get the final.

I think I'll be on board with this upgrade to windows 10 also. Looks very interesting.

 

That's true, but I think Win 8 is already running great, so no need to rush. I just hope that Win 10 will fix some of the annoyances that I mentioned in the "Windows Annoyances" thread, but I don't count on it.

 

I'm not sure what to think about it. As long if the browser engine gets faster, it's cool with me. I have even read that it will somehow support Chrome extensions, I wonder how they will do that. But an extensions-system would make IE more popular for sure.

 

Absolutely...that's always been IE's weakness/shortcomimg, of course compared to Firefox etc.
But I'm going to hold back on making any judgements about W10, and Spartan etc, until we assess the security and privacy features of later Preview builds, and RTM.
