Anyone familiar with the odd behavior of both Comodo Firewall and CIS V8? Evidently it's writing ADS to every file downloaded. I noticed this when I upgraded from V7 and tried to send downloads to a flash drive formatted to FAT32 and got property loss errors. A bug report has been filed on it by other users.

    https://forums.comodo.com/format-ve...ent-if-files-distributed-m1367-t108102.0.html

Basically it's adding ADS to every file and also changing date stamps, even on Windows Updates. Everyone seems to view this as a huge issue and I'm inclined to agree that at the very least it's a major annoyance. I think I'm going back to V7 or possibly switching to another firewall for now. Any suggestions of an alternative?

    thats windows, not Comodo.
    check out with http://www.softecdesign.com/NoFrames/Eng/ADSView.htm
content has to be "Zone.Identifier" - windows marks files from another zone (eg. web) to show a dialog when calling such files.

I have the same thing happen with Bitdefender free & had posted about it here. A member here had replied there will be no prob with those files & its fine.
Is this something critical or can damage files?

It's not Windows. I rolled it back to V7 yesterday and no more ADS on downloaded files. These weren't Zone.Identifier streams either. They were $CmdZnID and $CmdTcID. One could be removed with various ADS scanner tools. The other could not be removed until comodo was uninstalled. They were specific to Comodo. It's been recognized as a bug by Comodo but no word on a fix in the past couple of months.

There is nothing really wrong with the files. It tends to be an annoyance when sending files to non-NTFS drives though since it'll complain about property loss when you do, creating additional dialogs to deal with. The big concern seems to be that it's changing datestamps. Basically all executable files introduced to the system after V8 install are getting modified to the current time, even Windows updates, which can be a big deal for some.

Changing timestamps can have issues with various software, especially things like backup programs that use timestamps to determine if files need to be backed up during incremental backups.

Yes that thread is one of the guys that filed the bug report. The first post here has the bug report thread where it's been discussed in detail. Last I looked there is still no word from Comodo about why it happens but it has been acknowleged.
