Good to see that Potplayer works fine with SUMo with this new version.
Firefox : I know, but if you download FF from scratch... it will install this "new" version.

How SUMo detects PotPlayer version since there's no info in exe properties? And why doesn't do the same with other apps :doubt:

Because i implemented a "specific" trick to get it working for this particular product, based on advise from its developper.

    More details :
    http://www.kcsoftwares.com/bugs/view.php?id=2708

Already done for other products but SUMo can't have an many specific logic than supported software...

I have one question. When I was using SUMO it didn't show me Virtualbox in list of installed software. It would only show it after I used an option File - Scan folder... I run this option on folder C:\Program Files\Oracle. After running this same option on Program files and Program files(x86) folders, SUMO found additional 20 installed software. So would you say that it would be wise to manually run this option on both folder every now and then so that list of installed software is populated?

I tried SUMO and DUMO but the weakest point of the both is that it doesn't bring you to direct update webpages. It gives you only Google search results (with tons of ads) which unfortunately usually are faulty and irrelevant. It's pity.

It seems similar. After I used option File - Scan folder on both program files folders I got additional cca. 20 software recognized that were not detected during normal scan. I didn't dare to run that option on Windows folder as I would probably get hundreds of new pieces of software recognized.

This is due to the fact that these 20 software do not have shortcuts on desktop or start menu.

OK, thank you for explanation. So it's a good idea to run those scans every now and then.

    I agree.

    @Kyle_Katarn
Sumo used to have digital signature but now it doesn't have any valid digital sig. Could you kindly add a signature? Also Sumo is showing updates for adobe flash player for Firefox even though I uninstalled Firefox months ago.

It's a shame because if we realize that it takes less time to check whether exist an update for an application than to find update files on internet based on the given procedure by SUMO, this application doesn't bring anything to me. It's worth noting furthermore that the most modern applications have the in-built updaters with automatic updates what some ordinary users need not know and in case they're using SUMO they will blindly follow its recommendation to find and download updates from internet. This is absolutely ridiculous. If SUMO will be so smart to recognize which applications have the in-built updater and will force the updates to be run and for the rest of applications to bring you directly to the update webpages, I'm ready to change my mind.

I use SUMO mostly as update checker and not update manager. I have automatic updates in software disabled and use SUMO to check if there is a new version available. In my case this tool saves me a lot of time.

Sure. It's fair that SUMO says plainly it's a monitor, not an updater. My fault that I expected more from this application.

I also want Sumo to be more than just a monitor. I want it to update software or at least direct me to the official download webpage.

In a lot of cases SUMo can lead you to the manufacturer's webpage. Don't click "Download", but click the manufacturer's name, and next click "Web site". In cases where this option is available, this will bring you to the manufacturer's website, where it's usually just a few clicks to find the update page or update link.
In some cases there is no direct link to the webpage, yet. You can help make this better, by providing the right link through the option "Propose link".

For those applications that have in-built updaters and users that keep those updaters activated, there's no need for SUMo, of course. There's no need to complain about that, I would think.

For applications that don't have in-built updaters, there are some options that can help with automatic (or semi-automatic) updating. There's Secunia PSI, only for security updates, and there's Patch My PC and Ninite Updater, for non-security updates also. SUMo is no such thing. If you want automatic updating, use the application's in-built updater, or Secunia PSI, or Patch My PC, or Ninite Updater.

SUMO is for those users that love it for it's detections of updates that other update checkers don't find, and who don't feel the need for automatic updating or to be taken by the hand and lead to the download link. SUMo is for more advanced users, I think. Not for those that need to be taken by the hand. I'm sorry, but there it is.

Probably SUMO detects some Flash Player remnant.
Have you tried running the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller?
Download the uninstaller for Flash Player

Also, you can right-click the Flash Player item in SUMo, and choose "Open containing folder", to find the Flash Player remnant.

    P.S.
    Upon further consideration,
I think uninstalling Firefox may not uninstall Flash Player for Firefox.
I think the Firefox installation and the Flash Player installation are separate things, even though Flash Player is a Firefox plug-in.
So if you remove Firefox, Flash Player is not removed, unless you uninstall it. You can use the Flash Player uninstaller for that, as I mentioned above.

I'm relieved that an advanced user has explained me that. Yet I have comments.

Let's divide applications into three groups.
    1. OEM applications - no need of SUMo, it would be dangerous to follow SUMo because you could end up in troubles. For these applications a manufacturer update website should be used only.
    2. Applications with in-built updater - SUMO is pointless.
    3. The rest of applications - imo it's better to search update via application's menu, i.e. using support links, update links etc. Maybe it is not as fast as with SUMo but you will get definitely more accurate links to updates. Needless to say that SUMo is not always correct, in my case it showed wrong updates for Norton, Opera etc. and these applications are used widely so I wonder why SUMo is wrong.

So, having said above, if SUMo, then only as a generic advisor.
