What do you mean? It GREW in memory use when left on? I haven't noted this over 18 devices. Incompatibility with another product?

I'd like more details as well.

Norton performs a lot of tasks when the computer is idle.

Good point.. System scans, application scans, system optimizations. All of this spikes it's use.. You can turn most/all of it off without doing any harm, or ignore it, and it will cool down itself. Folks around here seem impatient, installing, then rapidly uninstalling - reactionary.

Only complaint I have right now is when toolbar is enabled I get the cursor spinning circle waiting on chrome to open and even after it is open. Same thing with IE11 too but not as much. Disable toolbar and everything is fine, so I know it's the toolbar. I do like to use the toolbar, but it's not a deal breaker.

I have a license key for NIS that is a couple years old. Do I have to install this cloud based stuff instead now?

I believe the license you have will only work for NIS 2014.

no you don't have to install the latest product,in fact the licence you hold won't work with it,you may be able to negotiate a discount with Norton if you choose to upgrade to their latest offering
NIS 2014 is a good product and is still available which works the licence you hold, assuming it hasn't been activated in the past(has it?even for a day or 2?), but if you're trying to avoid any cloud based product that isn't for you either as it also uses "the cloud" but to a slightly lesser degree than their latest offering, avoiding any product that uses the cloud is becoming pretty difficult as most seem to be going that way to some degree

Norton products have been using the cloud for a number of years. I'm not sure what the concern is. Regardless of whether a product uses cloud analysis or downloads signatures you have to trust the vendor. The only problem I see with products that rely heavily on cloud analysis is they become limited if the internet connection is lost. It's still advisable to use a product that includes a local database of sigs IMHO.

Same with me....tried and tried...even though it was a $19 license from Newegg.....kept getting major slow-downs....uninstalled it and re-installed TrendMicro with MBAM....now smooth quick, and no issues...

The only Windows 8.1 machines are mine. There is no way I can get anyone else at work on Windows 8.x. There aren't enough hours in the day for me to train everyone how to use it. Maybe when 10 comes out...

No. Couldn't get it to work (if it even recognizes the machine it didn't actually block any sites) but I don't need it for my machines so I am going to run Norton because it is good otherwise. On the machines that need parental control Trend Micro is the current front runner.

    Hi all,

Our family has been using NIS for the past 5 years, with just 10 days left on our NIS 2014 license. We have been very satisfied with NIS 2014 and as I can buy another 1-year (3-user) NIS 2014 license at the bargain price of $19 I'm wondering if I should buy it might Symantec end support well before the expiration date of the new license?

I'd be interested in your thoughts about this...

Buy 2015, it's better than 2014 in every way, and you can find great deals.

    Indeed!

For one, it doesn't have the double taskbar icon bug present in the older NIS/NAV where you would see 2 taskbar icons in the tray.

Secondly, with one license, it can be installed on 5 devices so it turns out to be cheaper.

Thirdly, it is a great all in one package that actually works like the Firewall which you already have in NID but it also has performance optimization and system clean up. The performance optimization was actually even smart to detect that my system has SSDs and didn't defrag them :D
