Linux scipts being processed by separate hardware to the PC ie. the router is faster than Javascript processing in a browser on the PC. It's pattern based filtering at DNS level. I would call it extended DNS filtering.
I've switched from AdblockPlus to Adblock Latitude on Pale Moon (default) browser, and so far so good Adblock Latitude - Add-ons - Pale Moon
Using the Adguard browser extension. So far so good. Tried the windows installer one but do not want to pay for ad blocking atm.
I use a combination of Proxomitron and the Request Policy extension. While neither is a true adblocker, together they make sure that I don't see ads or other unwanted content such as Facebooks "Like" button.

On Windows 7 64-bit and Chrome OS Beta, I use uBlock. On Android 5.0.1, I use Lucky Patcher's "Block Advertisements". On iOS 8.1.2, I use Experimental Untrusted Hosts Blocker. On Tahrpup 6.0 CE, I use the built-in Pup-Advert-Blocker, which also edits the HOSTS.
I've been using Adblock products for ages and good thing it still works. Although sometimes there is a trouble that I'm not able to see social buttons of some websites but this is a very minor bug though

On Firefox I recently changed to uBlock from the Adguard extension due to performance issue. And the browser feels a lot snappier, and I also got rid of Disconnect as I don't feel I need it alongside uBlock.
Been testing uBlock on chrome x64 & so far I'm really impressed, it doesn't slow down browsing like Adblock+ did & everything just feels faster
I've noticed a performance increase with µBlock on x64 Chrome and on x86 Chromium. I'm really impressed with µBlock.
