Yes you're right. I didn't think of companies and their secrets. But personally I still wouldn't be comfortable using software that might have backdoors planted by my government.

    LOL, are you serious?
Have you ever heard of Edward Sn0wd3n and his stories about his former employer?
In this age and era, anyone who has the ability to think will know what is going on. Reality is, every citizen is monitored by their government. This is universal, has nothing to do with what countries people are from.
I feel uncomfortable reading posts that obviously try to insult the readers' IQ.

Spying and finding out you ordered a Pizza is a lot different then datamining for state sponsored companies, and harvesting corporate/trade secrets. That's what I was referring to if you read subsequent posts. If a company like Symantec was involved with those things in this country it would be corporate suicide. But it is 'business as usual' in some other countries.

It is a valid point but this discussion is too long.

What about firmware backdoors in the hardware, most of which is coming from out of USA?

I thought this thread was about the AV-Comparatives real-world and file detection test.

Correct! Let's Focus Only On that Topic, and Leave Politics Out Of the Discussion. Thank You.

Oddly enough, despite complaints here on Wilders regarding the software, lately I have been installing Bitdefender Free on client machines. It's wickedly fast, great detection rates and is one of the few AV's in which is truly set it and forget it. Therefore, I rarely hear back from clients regarding "What do I do when this... pops up? No real nags and so on. Personally, I haven't given up on it yet despite lack of program updates. I believe it does get minimal program updates automatically still and of course definitions regularly. And of course, staying on topic with this thread, Bitdefender performs great with regards to AV-Comparatives real-world and file detection tests, though they do test the paid versions of course.

I don't actually use any AV's on my own machines though.

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. AVG never managed to fix their FPs with GamersGate game installers and GamersGate has pretty much given up on it as it was too much effort to go and get AVG to exclude every single file for every new and updated package they release. But other than that I've not had many issues, to be honest.

Yep, everyone thinks if a product doesn't get a new boob job every year then its considered abandoned. BAF is a hidden gem that works very well and doesn't cost a cent.

You hit the nail right on the head with those statements, I agree 100%. Not only that, but Bitdefender Free also integrates a lot of sophisticated technology from the Paid versions and does so in an efficient and simplified way for users who are not as technically skilled as us Wilders members. Hence the reason why I install it on many client machines of just everyday users who have no clue with regards to computer security.

    Hilarious, but often true.

However in the case of Trend 2015, it not only got a boob job, it got a heart transplant, those boobs are showing up in recent tests, and will continue to do so (most likely).

  13. Well still a question on Bitdefender Free are processes ASLR enabled of the free version?

Maybe a couple of uber enhanced breasts would give the gui a certain eye catching appeal but it would need some kind of bra configuration on top for grandma`s pc, methinks.

On a more mundane note I wonder if the self protection is any good ? Great minimalist set and forget piece of kit.

    Regards Eck:)

Look, I came here with the original nails and 2x4s, and I have to admit I have never "Trend". But I am getting close to and when I do you will know it.

The ironic thing is we all still debate a product that dies and resurects itself on a yearly basis. The only time I have gotten infected is when I willingly failed to wear a trojan. Be it Avast, Kaspersky, Avira or heck Clam, I think most do the trick for the majority of us. They are all good products with good people making them. Pick one and let it do its job and find something else to obsess about.

    Any idea why G-data isn't included ?

G-Data refused to participate in it as they have a complaint against AV-Comparatives' way to deal with user-dependent.
In last test they got many user-dependent.

Thank you very much for sharing. Glad to see how Avira is improving in its previously excellent detection ratios, but specially on reduction of FP.
