Completely agree, I didn't think it was possible to make Windows 8x look even uglier but M$ have proven me wrong.

I tried a whole bunch of them and Virtuawin is the one that suited me the most.
it's also portable.

it's pretty plain all right with the flat look and all.
but there's free and paid skinning application to fix that.

personally, I don't even pay attention anymore to the ugly look.

I wonder how many people know this, and its quite ironic to see the excitement over the news.

I think Win 9/Threshhold will be fantastic. Primary reason being that with Sinofsky gone, there is much more interaction between groups (thus Windows Phone features are being integrated) and customer feedback is being welcomed and not ignored like Sinofsky did. Also don't forget the visual look and feel is the last thing to be finalized and revealed.

 

Been using Win8.1.1.? since April on main PC, don't get me wrong it works ok but I really miss the beautiful sculpted UI & aero glass of Win7. Silly I know but I very visually orientated.

Even Android is going to go all flat looks, bright colours & animations everywhere with Android L.

 

Tsk tsk tsk, kids these days can't appreciate the straightforward, no nonsense UI in Windows XP. A UI shouldn't take up too much RAM usage which would make the system complain. =V

I would prefer flat looks in future Windows OS releases, tough I wish there would be “Black Edition” releases which alters a few stuff and of course, dominated by dark colour schemes. >=)

 

Well, if you want to get that way about it, forget the Fischer Price XP look, and go back to the good old Win2k visuals... There was an OS!

Honestly, I have never had “running out of resource” warning in 8's flat look, not even once. Whilst I got plenty of it in 7 (plus some more warnings about my games were not being compatible with Aero). True, 7 was on 2GB RAM and my Windows 8 system is now on 4GB RAM, but considering they were on different OS architectures (7 32-bit vs 8 64-bit) it think it justifies this condition.

But hey, why don't we just go back to MS-DOS? It's even better!

 

I've never run out of resource with x64 Win 7. I think aesthetics matter. If Apple and Linux can do it, why can't MS?

 

Well I had, pretty often. I was also almost being expelled back when I was on my elementary school days. Your mileage may vary. =V

 

Yeah, I still run Vista on my old x86 Belnea laptop that only has 1GB of RAM. I'm running Ubuntu off a DVD on it right at this moment and it is actually faster than Vista! So I know all about dodgy mileage. lol

I'm surprised that many of the icons are still holdovers from Vista. Look at how out of place the new PC Settings and Games icons are next to the others. I wonder why they haven't changed those after all this time. They surely must be a lot easier to create than the detailed Vista icons. Maybe they'll be in the final version?

Not that I actually want them to do it as I don't care for this style either. I'm just surprised they haven't yet.

I'm really not interested in Windows 9. They screwed up 8 and I'm suppose to be happy that they compromised by giving us back a start button just so they could shove metro into the start menu? With exception of cortona for the desktop, I'm failing to see the innovation that would motivate me to shell out money for an update. Windows 7 is running just fine and I'll be locking these machines down further when they cut support. I might keep one Windows machine running just for work with software like Visual Studio. Making Chrome OS my official choice for 2015 and if that doesn't work out, I'll still have Mint on the side.

 

I've been on linux in one form or another for years now. I'm looking at 9 to see if I could stand it on a new desktop pc if I buy early next year. If not, then it'll be more linux for me... But at least I'm willing to have a look. I didn't like 8, period, so I don't expect much to be different in 9 really. We will see I guess.... My main objection has always been Metro and touch based UI stuff in a non-mobile desktop or laptop OS. Just doesn't belong there... Just my 2 cents...
