You can disable SpywareGuard manually using the registry file below. Right click on this link and save a copy to your PC (Save Target As...):

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/attachments/sg22-remove-hook.reg

When you have that file, double-click it and allow it to merge into the registry. What that will do is remove the main protection that's hooked into Windows Explorer by SpywareGuard. Then reboot your PC. When your PC starts up, SpywareGuard will start up disabled, so you can go into the Task Manager (Ctrl Alt Del) and kill the two SpywareGuard processes: "sgmain" and "sgbhp".

You ought to be able to run the uninstaller once you've done these steps.

SpywareGuard is like a lot of products... It can't uninstall directly any files that are locked at the time the uninstall is done. All you do is reboot your PC and look for the SpywareGuard folder and you'll see a file of two left over. You can manually remove them after the reboot.

Hey Mike I got a question for you. I have XP Pro and am Running Spyware Guard 2.2 and it's showing up in the system Tray. Another version of SG I had was allowed to get rid of the Icon in the system tray. Can we do that here and have it still running?

    Also on another note.

What are the differences between SG and SpySweeper. Are they both watchers?

    If I am not mistaken:

SG=does not clean but just scans for spyware that is being installed?
    SW does what?

    Adaware 6 Pro = Cleaner?

I am thinking of Running SPYBot S&D, Adaware 6 Pro and either SG or SW depending on what I find out here. Ty.

Any other people with expertise woudl be glad to hear from on this :). Ty.

I also received the firewall warning. I have Sygate Personal. Will that keep SG from updating, or is there another issue at work here?

Anyone got an answer to the "System Error &H80004005 (-2147467259)" problem yet? I am (or WOULD BE!) a new user of SG if I could only get the thing to start. Am having the same problems starting the application as Drewster, so unable to evaluate the effectiveness of the software. Pity as I am impressed by Spywareblaster and wished to try the companion program :-(

Running Win98SE, AdAware, Spybot S&D, Spywareblaster, Norton Internet Security 2002, AVG 6, Sun Java Runtime 1.4, IE6 with latest patches, Opera 7.52, if that helps anyone to identify a problem/solution.

Have tried running SG with every other security measure I can think of disabled (reckless me!) to no avail, so any suggestions would be welcome.

    o_O

    Thanks,

    Phil

Re: SpywareGuard 2.2 released! REQUEST FOR HELP

I recently learned about SpywareGuard, and downloaded the full download version to install. I tried to install it, but two things occurred. First, after installing it, when I tried to run the program, I received an error message saying that there was a problem and the program needed to shut down. I then tried to use the update, which seemed to download something, but still received the error message when I tried to run SG again.

Second, installing SG caused the scroll button of my touchpad (Apoint.exe) to stop working. If I have SG installed, the scroll button doesn't work. I had to uninstall SG and restart my machine before I could recover my scroll button.

As I couldn't find any help information, I still haven't successfully installed SG.

Could someone advise me on how to install properly to avoid this conflict, and get the program to work? I closed all the applications I could think of before installing SG, and still got this problem. I am trying to install this on a Windows XP Pro machine, which already has SpywareBlaster installed, as well as Ad-aware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, McAfee antivirus, and Zone Alarm (free version). To date, all of these other programs work just fine together.

    thanks.

Somewhat similar to the previos poster I noticed that after installing SWG the mouse-over tooltip function suddenly stopped working. I tried a number of things - including uninstalling/reinstalling my LogiTech mouse driver and double checking my Windows Explorer settings - before finally boiling it down to SWG. Once I closed SWG the functionality returned. That's a real drag, because I was definitely getting used to/ejnoying having SWG on my system (W2K). However, it's a major annoyance to lose all the mouse-over info available when SWG's installed. I hope there's a fix soon for this.

    HI Guys

I wish to modify SpyGuard settings and discovered that I need password. Of course, I cannot remember the password and my usual ones do not work.

Does the advice above concerning disabling the registry key allow me to switch off SG and uninstall it so that I can resume using the program fully?

Alternatively, is there anyway I can reset the password?

    Many thanks

Thanks for prompt reply. I just figured out that if I do not load SG in startup (clearing check box in relevant section of Spyware blaster) and rebooting, simply uninstalling and then doing a cleain (re)installation of SG should work - and it has!

I shall keep in mind the link re: password for futrue reference :D

I had to use the manual updates, link shown in an earlier post. If I encounter the same problem downloading any future updates, should I just check here or go to that link and do the manual update? I guess I should wait to see if I continue to get the "error getting updates....loaded last files from back-up", eh? Right now it looks like everything is current. Glad I looked in the forums...I got the danged Xupiter hijacker a couple years ago, before I found these great products, and had to have MS help me reformat to get rid of it. Since then, I stopped downloading music and stayed away from any P2P sharing places. I can do without the headaches. Having both SWG and SWB has made the net a little less nerve wracking.

You guys have made some fantastic software. I have been online since 1992 and rarely do you see a program so bug-free and especially one that integrates so well with windows systems.

I have "patched" several friends pc's that were downed by spyware in the past three weeks and always install SPYWAREBLASTER and SPYWAREGUARD into them--incredible products.

Please, please, please, consider enabling SPYWAREGUARD for MOZILLA.

These programs are a must have for anyone reading this. I have NEVER had a system conflict or bogged down OS using these--they are great!

    No definition updates?

    Hello everyone,
I have noticed that no definition updates for SpywareGuard have been released for quite a long time, though definition updates for SpywareBlaster are being released at regular intervals. Could anyone tell me when is the next set of definition updates scheduled to be released?

    Re: No definition updates?

    Hi,

It's been my impression that Javacool's "style" with SpywareGuard is that anything new generally is incorporated into program upgrades, since (if I understand correctly) for all practical purposes it doesn't use what we think of as definitions.

Since it's heavy on heuristics protection, it's probably a fair guess that you'll see those upgrades primarily when new kinds of exploits are discovered in the wild -- or, of course, to fix bugs and glitches. And of course JC himself can't predict those.

    Best,
    Mike

I had no problems with SpywareGuard before installing XP SP2. Now I do. It seems to be a simialr problem to others regarding Logitech mouse drivers.

After installing XP SP2 my Logitech optical mouse and cordless keyboard could suddenly freeze. Several times I discovered that the system had suddenly regsitered my keybaord as another Logitech model.

By Trial and Error I discovered that it was SpywareGuard which was the culprit. By removing it I had no problem.

This is VERY unfortuante as I found the program very useful.

Odd -- I've got a Logitech optical mouse too (PS/2) but no problems with it using the MouseWare drivers. There is one application which mysterious locks it up for 10 or 15 seconds after exiting, apparently taking forever to shut down a process, but that goes back pre-SP2

Is Spywareguard compatible with norton firewall and antivirus? I have spywareblaster, S&D, cwshredder, do panda scan online, adware and the above mentioned antivirus and firewall. Any conflicts that anyone knows about?

The problem I am referring to is with a "set" of a Logitech Cordless Keyboard and Mouse. The problem ocurs, as I mentioned, when the keyboard suddenly is not registered by the system. The freeze situation happens when I hit a key on the keyboard.

I have no experiance with XP SP2 and an "independent" cordless mouse.
