How does the 840 EVO compare to the 840BW Pro in terms of performance?
I have a few 840BW Pro in different computers, and I am very happy with them.

The Samsung EVO perform good, you buy something good:thumb:

You can compare SSD performance here :
    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/665?vs=965

For now Samsung sorted out 850 pro series, which are a bit faster, but the 840 series Pro, EVO and normal are already in the top, the last series use V-NAND 3D Memory

I don't know why but sometimes i prefer my WesternDigital Velociraptor 10 000 tpm :D

    Thanks for that info, Rules.

For mechanical drives, Western Digital (WD) are all I use.

The only other thing is I have PerfectDisk 13 installed and I'm wondering if I should uninstall it, or does this SSD Optimize actually work at all ? Because if I look in PD Dashboard it has a Exclamation Mark next to the Samsung, Temp Disabled, Health Excellent/ Performance Fair

You dont need PerfectDisk with the SSD.
As long as it lets the SSD do its work (TRIM), it will be fine. (I guess it detects the SSD and avoids defragging it, which would accelerate the wear of the SSD)

Personally, i would uninstall it and use something like Defraggler as an On-Demand defragmenter.

I'm thinking of getting a new HDD for backup purposes but im probably going to get an external mechanical drive.

You don't need PerfectDisk or any other third party defragmenter/optimizer these days.

Ok thanks, It's gone! because even though Raxco claimed that it only uses SSD optimize after it had done that, I had a look at the before and after results, and the performance results read Before 99% after 98.7% wtf!
Also is it recommended to use the Samsung Magician Over Provisioning or not ? as it wants 23.9GB

It's a great SSD, I got the Samsung 840 EVO 250gb about 2 months ago for Steam & my games, very fast drive & Steam & games now load a lot quicker. Like others have said it not wise to defrag it as it doesn't gain any speed increase & can shorten the lifespan of the drive. I do use the over provisioning with default settings, did try Rapid mode but after some benchmarks & a couple or crashes I disabled it, it does make the numbers higher in the Magician software but in real life it didn't make that much a difference.

    Enjoy the speed increase :)

Thanks Banzi, I enabled Rapid Mode, and was wondering if it made a great deal of difference, but I guess I'll disable it also

My understanding is that defragmenting doesn't even work on an SSD because external software can't tell it exactly where to place data. That's governed by the SSD's own wear-leveling algorithms.

Let's say you were to create a partition on a new SSD that uses half of the drive, and you leave the rest unallocated. The graph may tell you that the first half of the drive is the partition and the last half is empty, but the drive is nevertheless going to use all of its blocks to distribute the data and keep per-block writes to a minimum.

Hello DVD+R....Since your new to SSDs I suggest you read up on them. One place to search would be SSD Tweaks. You will find some contradictory info, so keep reading then decide. At the end of the day you will be happy and never look back to spinners.

Your welcome. I had Rapid mode enabled for a couple of weeks but games that never crashed started to crash, according to Windows it was the Rapid driver so I disabled it & not had the games crash since.

I too have one of these drives, fantastic drive, trouble free and Fast. I do however recommend you read
https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...ioning-how-much-gb-do-you-dedicate-it.366430/ when it comes to overprovsioning and the samsung magician.

I have tried Rapid mode but decided i do not need it, but if your pc does do extensive amounts of writes enable it. Overprovisioning is also not really needed till your drive gets near 80% full.

    regards.
