WriteChangedSecsOnly only affects writing to the destination drive -- it doesn't affect creating the backup. All you need is a version that supports it to use it -- doesn't matter which version created the image.

I've never tested it with Sandboxie (I don't use it). It's possible it may block access needed to function correctly. My point was that there shouldn't be any need for it. If you run VM's you could setup one for creating the boot media -- just setup the TBWinRE files in it (you could do a clean install of the Windows you're using in it first, if necessary).

    hi
    may i ask a question?
can i add IFW.INI with ultraiso o other utility inside the root of the winpe iso?

or should i re-create the winpe iso?

    thanks

The IFW.INI file needs to be in the folder with IFW (imagew.exe). It won't work to put it in the root of the ISO. You would need to recreate the build with the IFW.INI file you want to use. Otherwise, you would need to update the file or copy in a replacement after booting.

If you want to be able to change it without recreating the build you'd need to use the FindBootDrive option when creating the build and setup the autorun.cmd file to copy the IFW.INI file from the media to the running location.

    Hello,

I have a question about compression. From the manual, I assume "Enhanced Speed A" and "Enhanced Speed B" are the fastest. The manual is not clear as to which of the two is actually the fastest nor how the two compression methods compare as to speed and compression. I am interested in the comparison of these two methods compared to each other and compared to the standard (default) method. Basically, how the three differ in both compression size and speed. Does anyone out there have any experience with these and would like to post your observations? Thanks in advance...

What kind of compression you get really depends on exactly what you're backing up. You'd have to run each on the same partition and compare.

Speed A is faster and probably a little less compression than Speed B. Speed A is usually the fastest while giving up very little in image size.

There are some comparisons in this thread on the TeraByte forum.

    Hello MudCrab,

Thanks a lot for your reply (especially the link to the TB forum). I has been using Enhanced Speed A for a while now as my preference. I have just installed 8.1 on a friend's machine along with IFW. We were having a discussion about the different compressions as to size and speed. I just wanted to research this a bit to backup my individual preference for Enhanced Speed A before I finished setting up IFW on his machine. Thanks, you helped deciding for my friend a lot easier...

    Hello,

Another question... Has anyone used the multi-pass option in creating backups? The IFW manual states that some systems will see a increase in speed if used. I also notice that this must be used if backing up to CD/DVD, however I do not so it is an option. I was wondering about the advantages and/or disadvantages in using the multi-pass option.

I think it's more for very slow interfaces or when reading the source and writing the backup can't be done at the same time. I haven't run any specific tests with it, but would guess that most wouldn't gain any speed by using it.

    never used it.

one thing you can try is to test to see which of IFW, IFL, or IFD is the fastest at creating and restoring images.

in my case, IFL has always been the fastest on my machine.
i boot it from a USB key so it's fast ans convenient.

I want to Move Bootit BM to another HDD> with out re-installing all my settings,
Can I just restore that Partition and re-activate it ?

Here is what I am planing on doing.
    Create Primary Fat32
    Create Primary NTFs

    Chris,

Is the new HD in the same computer? Do you want to move the BIBM partition from HD0 to HD1?

Is the BIBM partition at the start or the end of the HD?

How many partitions are on your current HD0?

Or do you have another computer for this exercise?

That sounds fine. Both methods are only a few minutes.

IFW ver 2.89 contains a new switch. IFW in my batch files now starts 10 seconds earlier. I don't image to USB HDs from batch files.

If WinXP is on an SSD make it 1MiB aligned. On a HD it doesn't matter if the partition is Legacy or 1MiB aligned.

Hi, apparently ver. 3 isn't being considered anytime soon. I got this bit of info from bits du jour website in which a Terabyte employee made the statement.
