What is your security setup these days?

Realtime (Win7 Ult.):
- WFW two-way, UAC deny elevation of unsigned programs, GPO disabled risk-ware services
- Deny execute in user folders for Basic Users (SRP) / in drive-by's for Everyone (ACL)
- Avast FREE (file shield guards installation folder in whitelist mode) and EMET 5

Setup is as per signature. Same old, same old. "Sandboxie and some other stuff". (To quote another dedicated sandboxie user)

Had to dump EIS for EAM, EIS all of a sudden got buggy today, would not open, tried several re-installs , same thing, or firewall would not work on re-installs, or box popped up saying some components were missing/corrupted. Maybe a buggy update? Anyone have this problem?

 

I kind of thought that you might know that guy. lol.

 

Avast free av with hardern mode(aggressive), costum install only realtime, webshield and windows firewall with advanced settings. nothing more needed

 

Since EIS is still in the beta, I would not recommend anyone to use it outside the virtual environment.

Yeah, I had the exact same problem yesterday.Also reverted back to EAM.

I've been on my sig setup for quite a while now and I haven't had any issues. It's obviously quite fast and very hassle free. I hardly ever manually scan anything as I generally only get files from reputable sites.
The whole idea behind my setup is an emphasis on the user (me) having common sense and being careful. In the event that I do catch something, I'll get notified by HMP's automatic scans and then I can simply load a clean image from the previous day or two and be set. I'm really liking it though I've been tempted to give Comodo Firewall and D+ a try again. Also, I installed Panda Cloud AV on my pc to test it out before getting my dad's laptop setup and I IMMEDIATELY noticed a slow down. Ended up going with trusty Avast! for him.

 

Appguard, MBAM, Tinywall.

I haven't been keeping up with security stuff recently, so is this a new free version or is this version 2.7.0 (or whatever the last free version was)?

 

With celebrating over a decade of Wilders-membership I return here, realizing I have been a bit sloppy the last years security-wise. Time for a good check-up!
A couple of systems further along the road, lots of stuff ended life, or got lost of sight since then. Never been a true security hardliner (freak?), more your ordinary user who likes to keep informed and balance 'heaven & hell' in computing.
Hope at least my basic line of defense is not too outdated and at least decent.
Let's freshen up again, for there's plenty forgotten and always plenty to be learned. Any pointers are very welcome ~ PM me here pls. Rehi, old pals

Slammer jammer , I think a lot of the members will recommend removing Spybot, seems to have fallen out of favour with the security crowd and MBAM is a suitable replacement.

 

Yes it is 2.7.0, I thing that's the latest free version (x64), a bit outdated ? , yesterday my laptop acting weird and so I removed webroot secureAnywhere and NVT too. I will find out cause later, maybe its webroot and/or NVT (on x64)

 

Sandboxie and ....eh....er.....WHATEVERRRR.

What digmor said about MBAM. HitmanPro would be good to have too. An up-to-date system image can make dealing with problems a lot easier. And I'm with those here who've put Sandboxie at the top of the list.

 

Wow people still posting in this thread . I've just been using linux and havent worried about any security apps

 

No worries here, with Sandboxie and some other stuff... Macrium Reflect being high up on the Other Stuff list.
