@ Moontan, which engine are you using? I was surprised to see that the new IE11 Trident engine is quite fast.

And how is the "Source Sniffer" in Maxthon, can it grab this file for example? :)

i don't have Chrome installed so i am assuming only the IE 11 Trident engine is available to me.
    i'm not sure...

the Source Sniffer does not see the link from your post.
anyway, Maxthon is available in portable form from the Maxthon site itself, so you can give it a try without installing anything.

anyway, as soon as I finished the post above I entered something in the search bar.
when I landed on the Google search result page the whole computer seized up, including the computer audio who was making sounds like a robot having seizures. ;)
I had to do a hard reboot.

not sure if this has something to do with Maxthon or if it was just a coincidence...
but I uninstalled it, not really enjoying that experience.

OK thanks, then it isn´t really that advanced. And I have never liked Maxthon since v3, so I didn´t feel like trying it. ;)

I'm pretty sure Maxthon uses the same engine as Chrome. The Trident plug-in can be switched to Chromium by clicking Switch Browser Core in the Chrome style drop-down menu at the right of the GUI.

@Tarnak: Maxthon has an updater that automatically tries to register itself as a scheduled task and checks occasionally for updates via MxUp.exe. It will, however, not update on it's own, instead preferring to notify you by a popup and allowing you to choose if you want to allow the update or not.

These are things I don't like either, but I've come to familiarize with the built-in AdHunter, which does a good job (it's not very easy to use and doesnt block all type of ads). Regarding privacy, the only option is to opt-out from their User Experience Program and the infamous 'do not track' standard.

Another feature I like is the resource sniffer, that scans webpages for downloadable media.

Nice to see you are liking it, it's a great browser, very fast and flexible.

I see that you can hide the column, but it reappears when you restart. How can you hide it permanently until you want it back? Thanks in advance.

I installed Max for the first time today, so I might be asking a few basic questions. The browser starts using 100% zoom level, but it shows really small with about a 8 point font. I have to zoom it up to 150% to make it large enough. I can't figure out how to make 150% permanent as it goes back to 100% when I change url's. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

    Hi @twl845 ,

Are you using the portable version, or running sandboxed/virtualized? I ask this because I've had the left panel hidden since I first installed it and it hasn't reappeared by itself. Also, the zoom gets applied to all currently-open tabs and new tabs aswell. For some reason your settings are not being saved, thus reverting to default every time you restart or open a new tab.

Hi atomomega. I downloaded Maxthon for Win 7, and I'm not running a sandbox. It's as I got it when I installed it a few hours ago.

Thanks, I keeping seeng [via DefenseWall FW] that it wants to connnect to MxUp.exe, whenever I use Maxthon, but I just block it...and it doesn't affect my using the browser, which is a good alternative to my Opera browser, when it doesn't play a youtube video, or there is a problem with the sound. I just switch to Maxthon, and it plays the youtube video, no trouble at all.

Sorry, but I have to get back to you on that, because I have for forgotten, what you have to do to change it permanently. There is a way, I am sure.

Maybe daveski17 can chip in, and let us know.

I thought that if you click the cogwheel icon at the bottom of the sidebar and check 'Hide Sidebar' it would not be visible.

Thanks guys. I was playing with it and clicked "pin to Max" and "hide" also. Now the sidebar's gone and there's an icon in the lower left corner that says "Show side bar".

I still can't make the zoom level stick at 150%. It's like I'm looking at the screen resolution of 1920x1080 at 100%.
