Apologies to anyone having trouble trying to access The Official Shadow Defender Forum for the last couple of days. The webhost says there is some sort of problem with the server. Hopefully they will sort it out as soon as possible.

Update It's not any better today 3 Aug 2014, I'm looking for a more stable webhost.

Update 4 Aug 2014...trying to move and transfer to a new webhost. It might take some time for the dns to update. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Patrick

    update 5 Aug 2014

I'm struggling to move the forum to new host.
I have the sql from backup, compressed .sql.gz and also single file .sql, I have the forum files.
I've uploaded the forum using ftp etc...the dns has had 24 hours or so to work it's way through to new host but I need some help with database configuration etc. I've not had to move a forum previously.
If anyone has had experience of this, advice would be appreciated.

    Greeting:;)

Can you install AppGaurd,Shadow Defender and SandBoxie on the PC. Without any conflicts?
And then run SandBoxie and Appguard at the same time? And then run Shadow Defender and
AppGuard setting at medium without any conflicts?

Looking forward to hearing the answer:)

You can run all three together, enabled for maximum security, if you want to: i.e. browser sandboxed, Shadow Mode enabled, AppGuard set to Locked Down. I've done it without encountering any issues.

    Hi Baedric,
I've been trying to transfer the files and database over to a new host for a couple of days now because the old host changed something that made it unuseable...constantly falling over.
I've ftpd up the files and imported the datatabse to the new host but it keeps knocking me off before I have the chance to reconfigure the database to the new host settings. It's very frustrating as I do not know a lot about these things and it's like going around in circles. I've been searching around for over a week for hosts that will accept the domain, forum software, that have cpanel and mysql, phpmyadmin etc. Most of them have some sort of drawback or limitation that makes them unusable. The forum is small and doesn't warrant getting paid hosting as the developer has only posted once and that has had an effect on the members enthusiasm for the forum. Still, there has been significant activity each day and when there was a new release of Shadow Defender, even a sudden surge of activity. ;)
I'm not sure what to do.
I have quite a few backups of files and the database in .gz format and the most recent two or three backups I have the files, the database in single file .sql format and also in .gz (compressed) so once I can actually get a hosting that isn't designed to frustrate I might be in with a chance.
I'm no wizard at database stuff and a transfer is a bit more awkward than making a forum from scratch on a host.
My apologies to any members that may have been inconvenienced.

    best wishes

Patrick (Admin, the Official Shadow Defender Forum)

    Hello guys,

i'd like a quick answer to my question please which is this:
Can a windows 7 x64 system be backed up/restored (with macrium reflect) that is equipped with shadow defender?
«I have installed the recent promotional full version that could be activated until august first.»

I appreciate all your effort Patrick! That sounds very frustrating! I don't think that finding hosting etc... is usually left up to the Forum Mod (no knock on you). I know if it were me, I would probably just back away and let the Software Developer figure it out on their own. There is plenty of support for SD to be found here imo.

Thanks again for all your efforts,

    Baedric

Much appreciated Baedric :) but actually I am the forum owner, administrator and shadowdefenderforum.com domain owner. I know that there is a lot of support here on this great thread but it was my way of trying to be involved and put something into the community as a lover of Shadow Defender from an early stage of it's development. Having been Global Moderator on the original Shadow Defender Forum before the software crash when Tony was absent, I just wanted to see it continue.

    best wishes

Yes, it can. Shadow Defender is compatible with imaging software. Just make sure the system is not in Shadow Mode when creating images.

Patrick, thanks from my side too for all your efforts (though I must admit that I am also not a quite frequent visitor of your forum ...).

Unfortunately I have no knowledge at all about databases etc. so that I cannot provide you with any substantial help. But as you write that you search around for a host I will send you a PN with a hoster that perhaps may be of use or you.

    Good luck anyway. :)

    Hello everyone,

Just a quick couple of questions...

    1. I'm currently on an older version of SD 1.3.0.457 and it's setup with windows 8 pro. Can I upgrade to the latest version of SD without losing my current SD settings? If so, how?

    2. How can I exclude AVG as SD keeps taking it's virus definitions back to the old version. BTW, I've already excluded most of AVG folders and this has not worked.

    Thanks

As far as I know you can just install over the top of your old version and I think it will keep your settings.
I think that you may have to put in your Shadow Defender registration details again though.

I think it might be easier just to come out of Shadow Mode now and again to update your anti virus signatures.

if you reset the whole system with SD while your signatures were kept actual you might get a mismatch between system settings and files. AVG will update immediately when online. conclusion: no good idea.

Right thanks very much guys. I'm a bit apprehensive to overwrite unless it can definitely be confirmed that I won't lose my settings.

I've got hundreds of files and folders added in exclusion, so sorry if you think it's shitstorming, but I want a concrete answer mate.

360 Total Security is not compatible with Shadow Defender. Can you guys pls give some recommendations on what to use instead? Lightweight is a criteria.

Sorry, I'd forgotten but if you want to save your exclusion list, then open Shadow Defender, go to your File Exclusion List on the menu and you will notice on the right hand side two arrows in grey boxes
    >
    <
Hover over the arrows and you can see that
this is where you can save your list

    > is 'Save the Exclusion List to a file'
and < is 'Load the Exclusion List from a file'

I hope that this solves your problem

    hi everyone,

i've installed the latest version of SD over the old one. But now it won't let me enter SD and keeps saying "invalid password", even though I'm entering the correct one. I haven't changed this password, so it should work.

Please could you help me? How can I cancel the password out?

Are you sure that you are putting the correct username and password in when you initially install and not into the 'Administration' section? Make sure that your username and password correspond.
I've never heard of a password not working.
If you have followed my steps above to save your exclusion list to file then I would suggest that you do a fresh installation of Shadow Defender and then 'load the exclusion list from a file' after Shadow Defender has accepted your password.
If you have lost the password or forgotten it then, unfortunately, there is no way that it can be recovered.
