It's not next, it's the current one and has been one for years now. The problem is that it's a lopsided battle for the foreseeable future. No small group of or lonewolf security gurus can compete with several world powers employing a pretty hefty percentage of the worlds math and security geniuses, equipped with known and as yet unknown technology and billions of dollars to play with and government parents who don't particularly care how they play with it all. Not even Google can, and it isn't entirely clear just yet whose side they even lean toward. As for this news about Russia, well it isn't really news. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of governments and their intelligence agencies are hammering at it every hour of the day, and of course we have no way of knowing how much they have really succeeded. They certainly won't announce it on CNN.

That price seems pretty low. It almost feels like they're just banking on that 5 grand entrance fee.

I'm sure they are, and the people more likely to enter this "contest" are the type that will make back that entrance fee very quickly through hacking and siphoning the data of international companies and random targets. This contest isn't for the legit crowd.
