I just noticed UAV is using FTP. I think it would be advisable to use some encryption rather than cleartext transfers.
Yes, you are right. We are using FTP to transfer those executables to Universal AV server when the server detects that it does not have them as sample files. But there is no way the attacker can modify the transferred executables as they are checked against their hashes that were uploaded earlier.
We are using clamav for the offline antivirus. We know that not many like clamav so we have allowed users the option to disable it and use it jointly with the av they are currently using. we mainly use the clamav to only scan document files like Words, Excel, etc. and newly installed / created executables. SecureAPlus also has a cloud-based av, Universal AV. Currently we have 11 av engines in the Universal AV server that do a background scan of all the executables on your computer in the cloud continuously and automatically. During the scanning process, if virus is detected, it will notify the users. We will be introducing a paid version soon, SecureAPlus Premium. This paid version comes with a SecureAPlus Account Portal that allows managing of more than one user license, provides you information on the infected machine and files and emails virus alert notification to you.

Hi guys, After fixing those bugs that were reported, we are releasing another version, SecureAPlus Beta v3.1.1 for further testing. In this version, we have fixed the following problems reported by some of the beta testers: - The memory leak problem in SecureAPlus.exe. - SecureAPlus' long running process has affected the internet access. - Crashing problem due to unexpected response from Universal AV server. Based on some feedback, we have added in a new option to disable or enable upload of sample files to Universal AV. We have added two new GUI, Application Whitelisting Standard Mode and Application Whitelisting Advanced Mode to the SecureAPlus Settings. We have also made some other minor modifications like renaming some of the buttons, amending some message prompt text and other GUI issues. Just like before, if you have already installed SecureAPlus Beta on your computer and your default setting is automatic update, SecureAPlus will be automatically updated upon your next reboot. You can go to http://beta.secureaplus.com/Beta2/betaportal_download.php to view the latest changelog or download the latest SecureAPlus Beta v3.1.1. If you are interested, please help us to do some intensive testing of this latest version. Looking forward to all your comments or suggestions. Cheers, sinlam

Hi Guys, This is the "emergency" release of v3.1.2 to fix the crash in Universal AV service when receiving unexpected response from the server. Sorry guys for any inconvenience caused. Looking forward to all of your comments. Cheers, sinlam
Does UAV cache known safe and previously scanned files? I ask since on a fresh image of Windows 7 with Office 2010 (no other applications installed except for MS updates), UAV still wants to upload to its servers.
As long as it is a new file hash, it will be uploaded to Universal AV server. If Universal AV detects that it does not have a sample of the executable file, it will upload the file. This may happen when a software is updated to the newer version or patch. Universal AV server may not have some of the executable as sample, so it will upload these files for detailed scanning. But it is only one-time upload.
