They are in this folder: 360\Total Security\deepscan\SDEng\bd\Plugins
But unlike Avira I cannot open the files

OK! Now it seems to be so, that original BitDefender has much less signature numbers than 360 TS BD engine has, when the original BitDefender update.txt file is as below.

    Update time: Thu Jul 17 13:36:18 2014
    Signature number: 10135270
    Update time GMT: 1405593378
    Version: 7.55907

PS. Maybe the BD update url was wrong, when in here

    http://download.bitdefender.com/updates/update_is_90/Plugins/

    you can see this.

    Update time: Thu Jul 17 13:36:18 2014
    Signature number: 10719476
    Update time GMT: 1405593378
    Version: 7.55907

and almost 2 hrs later a bit less

    Update time: Thu Jul 17 15:23:44 2014
    Signature number: 10716984
    Update time GMT: 1405599824
    Version: 7.55908

Yep, Bitdefender likely added some generic signatures to cover more threats. I guess this is the reason of the smaller number of definitions in latest updates

Has someone yet reported this problem to their support?? It seems to be a major flaw.

A couple of minutes ago I updated manually my 360 TS and here are those findings.

    Latest original BitDefender update.txt file:

    Update time: Fri Jul 18 05:55:24 2014
    Signature number: 10703747
    Update time GMT: 1405652124
    Version: 7.55914

    360 TS BD-engine update_BD.txt file:

    Update time: Fri Jul 18 00:54:44 2014
    Signature number: 10706841
    Update time GMT: 1405634084
    Version: 7.55913

    Latest original Avira VDF-file 7.11.162.136:

This VDF file was published on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 8:19 AM GMT+2

    360 TS Avira-engine VDF-file 7.11.160.211 (Tuesday):

    vbase031.vdf:

    Virus Database File
    Version: 7.11.160.254
    FUP: 1
    License date: 15.7.2014
    VDF date: 15.7.2014
    Minimum engine: 7.9.4.32
    Signatures: 7121569
    Required linked VDF: 7.11.160.211
    Source: 7.11.160.254
    Compiler: 1.5.0.4

So, Avira updates lacks behind more than acceptable.

It's a known fact. Don't be surprised. You have only two options, either accept it or to get a different AV solution.

OK! I switched back to 360 IS 5.0 Beta, which is at least tested to be a good av.

    Signature number: 10703747

I didn't mean this one particularly, there are many decent free AV solutions out there but it's your choice and if you're happy with IS, all is fine.

So far 360 IS 5.0 Beta is updating BD signatures properly, I'll prefer it more than F-Secure 2014 IS even that I can get it free from my internet provider.

Isn't it strange that 360IS which sooner or later will be left at the mercy to free up a way for TS is getting newer signatures than TS?!

I wonder if the licensing between Avira and Bitdefender with Qihoo changed between IS and TS.

    1. Make sure you're logged in as an Administrator.
    2. Go to 360 TS SETTINGS,and turn OFF "360 Self Protection"
and you can access/edit/add/delete/rename the files in the signatures folders, if you wish.

Now, code us a script which downloads the latest signatures from BD/Avira servers and puts them in the 360 TS folders, and share the script. :-D

Great. Avira database is still stuck at July 15. And Bitdefender at July 17. I guess they update just once per week. Btw still no answer by them...

    Avira:

    Virus Database File
    Version: 7.11.160.254
    FUP: 1
    License date: 15.7.2014
    VDF date: 15.7.2014
    Minimum engine: 7.9.4.32
    Signatures: 7121569
    Required linked VDF: 7.11.160.211
    Source: 7.11.160.254
    Compiler: 1.5.0.4

    Bitdefender:

    Update time: Thu Jul 17 03:09:31 2014
    Signature number: 10726000
    Update time GMT: 1405555771

so you mean this software is lying when mine says the virus definitions are from today.
    both of them.

The date that program shows you on the interface is actually the date in which it checks out for new updates and not to the day in which signatures have been released by Avira or Bitdefender. Also on my system 360 reports that signatures are from today, but actually they are older of some days.
So, yes, you can say that it is lying, if you want.

I did a small offline detection rate test with a zero-day pack containing 88 malware files (with both Avira and Bitdefender active and up-to-date).

2 hours earlier, someone tested TS and reported 84 out of 88 were found, or 95.45%.

Then, on my machine, without internet connection, TS found 77 out of the 88, or 87.5%.

Naturally this is just one pack, but the samples are fresh enough. For comparison purposes, avast! is reported to have a 80.7% detection rate on this pack at this moment.

Edit: I found a brand new pack with a larger number of samples.

On extraction, offline, nothing was found (Avira engine active, Bitdefender inactive).

On scan, 409 out of 464 were found, or 88.15%.

Now online, again nothing found on extraction (extensionless files, "check all file types" is on).

On scan, 420 were found our of 464, or 90.52%.

I tested the real-time protection again and again, but it does not seem to be working whether I'm online or offline. So detection rates when offline are fine in this product, but it has other serious problems. (tested on a Windows 7 64-bit PC)

Running this on my 8.1, Update 1 system without issue at present.
Changed over from IS to have a look/play.
Updates all bang up to date including BD/Avira engines.

Only criticisms would be that it appears amateurish (GUI) compared to IS but this is purely cosmetic.
Can't really knock anything that manages to give me cloud cover, BD/Avira engines for free and even sandbox capability.
Not noticed any difference on my system with memory load etc. but to be honest not looking that closely either so will stick with it for now and let everyone else criticise it to the Nth degree, as seems to be the WS way.
Funny how these forum 'experts' never seem to be able to come up with their own alternative program solution yet seem to know every intimate inside track of everyone else's programs?
We have a phrase here in the UK for such people, 'armchair experts'!

You are quite right Jaspion, TS has multiple serious issues. If I were going to use a free product right now I would use Avast with settings maxed out or Avira and pair either one up with Comodo FW or Privatefirewall. PFW is so light. I hope Qihoo's promised big July release materializes and addresses problems and user concerns. They would have to do a lot for me to start using TS again.

That is exactly what I did. I have Avast setup with max settimgs, PFW, and Zemana Free on one of my machines and it works great with little system impact.
