As many devoted WinPatrol fans know, the past few years have presented some difficult challenges for the Pytlovany family. As a result, Bill made the tough decision to seek a new owner of WinPatrol.

The primary prerequisite for a new owner of WinPatrol was that the person have the same high ethical standards as Bill, someone who strongly believes in conducting security business the right way. That prerequisite has been met by Bret Lowry who told me, in part:

Bret also provided his approval for the continuation of our unofficial support site, WinPatrol Help & Information, at LandzDown Forum.

Additional information is available in my blog post at WinPatrol: Changing of the Guard and Bill's announcement at Bits from Bill: WinPatrol™ Generation II.

I trust within' Bill, that he has chosen the right person for the job.

Bill deserves a break in his life, I wish him and his family all the best.

As for Bret, I hope he will continue his journey to keep Scotty alive, not only for all the WinPatrol fans out there, but also in respect of Bill.

Bret, we all hope to grow to know you, like we have grown to know Bill, I wish you all the luck within' this project.

Believe me, Page42, WinPatrol is in much better hands with Bret. Anything I did would be a coding nightmare.

    Longtime WinPatrol Plus user.

Sad to see Bill go. But anybody who has been paying attention... we sorta knew this was coming.

The transfer of companies with lifetime licenses often does not work out very well for 'us.'

But I trust that Bill did his best to look out for the loyal customers, and I'll hope for the best.

Yes, Bret has promised that the lifetime licenses will be honored. He will also continue offering the free version of WinPatrol.

As to information (other than my blog posts ;) ), note that Bill has already updated http://winpatrol.com/ with Bret's picture and message. I have no doubt that WinPatrol version updates will continue to be provided here and the support@winpatrol email address will, as far as I know, continue.

Much like an actual dog, I'm sure Bill would only hand over Scotty to someone that would take care of him. Take it easy, Bill.

As an aside, here's hoping the GUI will receive a much needed revamp.

Thank you, Corrine for posting. Sorry to see a good friend like Bill go, but he must do what is best for himself at this point in life. WinPatrol was one of the first programs I installed when I started using my home computer - I will miss Bill's face on the site - my best to him.

The yellow/gold implies "caution" or an alert and has confused some people.
