Hello Mark,

It has been a while since I got rid of Acronis and back then you were almost guaranteed to have leftovers after uninstalling. Acronis is supposed to be better today with its uninstall routine and their "improved" Cleanup Utility is supposed to be a lot better too. I learned the hard way back then and the steps that I posted should be the best way to go. Be sure to check the registry keys noted at the bottom of the page I linked to after you finish. If none of those entries are present, then your uninstall should be clean.

 

imo at the very least i would run something like ccleaner after a acronis uninstall. i say ccleaner because at its default settings its very safe even for someone with no knowledge of how to use it. im not aware if acronis has a removal tool ill have to check but if they do its probably the best way to go. removing acronis even the newest version is a crapshoot imo

 

Thanks people. zfactor, you've picked up on my limitations. I have & use CCleaner but taking any more liberties with my registry gives me the willies. Night sweats, terrors, heart palpitations - the whole 9 yards.

Philosophical question: I may be impaired but I've had a rocket scientist who builds computers and writes code for a living unable to install this freakishly idiosyncratic commercial software. Why?

One more piece of advice. When you do the uninstall for Acronis, there are a lot of drivers that have to be uninstalled. It is best to close as many programs and processes as possible before you uninstall. I would also disable any security software that you may have like anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-exploit, anti-exe, etc... If you feel uncomfortable doing this you can always disconnect from the internet too. It is important to do this before you do the uninstall and run the cleanup utility because I have seen security programs block the uninstallation of drivers. You want the least number of programs and processes running as possible to cut down on the risk of conflict. There can be enough issues trying to fully get rid of Acronis and there is no need to take a chance and add to the possibility of conflict.
