    Hi everyone,

Background: I'm a sysadmin in education!

A staff member has come to me with her camera's SD card, worried that she has lost her photos. The DCIM folder has somehow turned in to a 2mb file, and photos are inaccessible. Windows reports 200mb of the card is used up, however, which gives me hope that the photos are still there in some capacity.

She advised that the card was fine until she viewed a few images on her Win 8.1 laptop and hibernated. After turning it back on, it had gone like it is now.

I've ran TestDisk, and it couldn't find anything to do. Recuva from piriform couldn't find any old files either.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me please? My feeling is the answer is in why it happened in the first place, it feels like something has 'locked' the files on it.

    Thanks in advance lovely people!
    Matt

    Hey Brian,

Thanks very much for the swift reply, much appreciated!

chkdsk is saying 'Unrecoverable error in folder \System Volume Informgation' (spelling error is MS not me!) and asking whether I was to 'Convert folder to file' - any ideas if I do?

    Thanks again
    Matt

    Matt,

I'm guessing but try "No" and "Yes" if you have to.

    Brian,

I have no idea what happened - but after selecting no, exiting, then running Recuva again, the files were picked up and I have a happy customer!

Thanks so much for your help - much appreciated!

    Matt,

Good news. I'd ask her to disable Fast Startup/ Hibernation or it could happen again.
