So... now we have a couple of experts from the "big boys league"?
Look, if Avast! works for 'true Indian" and he's happy with it..... Why not just leave it at that. No need for insults.

I simply do not see reason to dump avast because of poor test results. It has been working fine so far with 10s of PC I have put it into and nothing but help with re-registering has come into topic.

Yeah henryq...I dont get it.It doing well for me since the mid of may and so I test it regularly and its working just fine.I dont get it why people have to raise their voices. All of us have rights to our opinion.

We will see how avast does in AV-C and other tests ahead this month.I made this thread for discussion on my findings and test not for avast haters. So if you dont like it,stay out of it.

True indian is certainly not a fanboy or whatever, he made conclusions on his personal tests, MalwareFigther's reply is not something expected to such a thread.

For me, it's been a while I've been using Avira and quite satisfied with it (on 3 PCs).

Now for avast!, I keep an eye on your tests and many others, I don't have time to try it out right now but still keeping an eye.

OT: spywar how is avira right now? I have been chatting with stefan via PM on APC in the free one.Its not up yet and its going to take longer than expected.

Also to add I stopped using avast personally and recommending it in the past 2 months.Check my posts at avast forums and you will know.

Avast fits perfectly into my layered security approach as I continue using XP.

ill be honest the one big reason I don't put avast on peoples PC is the fact that people don't know or understand computers at all and they wont know to register their avast. I have seen a lot of people avast on their computer that are not working bcause of that fact. I wish they would use Streaming updates to validate who and how many is really using Avast that would be great.

Actually, true indian is right. ALL free users are not benefiting from it for now, they're slowly managing h/w infrastructure. Got confirmation like few weeks ago, now I don't know if it's up and working for all today (3rd June).

    1) Do you think that they are lying in their official site?

    2) Do you think that if I download/install the Avira Free right now, I will "not benefiting from it for now, they're slowly managing h/w infrastructure"?

If I wasn't already using another solution I wouldn't hesitate to use Avast. Protection is stlil good for the average user.

Tested latest 110 pack from MT,Alot of ones that needed me to install .NET so I did and most of the .NET ones got blocked by deepscreen.I had 2 nasty ones that went through.1 of them constantly kept crashing, other one was throwing up a image.Pretty damn good pack for testing really.Alot of AV's I tested including comodo got bypassed by the ransom. Not even 1 filerep detection.

Avast wasnt the one that got bypassed by ransom that was in the pack.Deepscreen hopefully got it.Still pretty sad results to speak off as the other 2 did do some damage. So I completely wiped the VM off.

So far on my testing till now,I feel like avast's filerep detection tatics are more reactive than proactive. Its working method is like, user runs infected file>>avast finds it as suspicious and silently sends to their lab>>in a matter of short time filerep picks them up.

It will be nice if you can repeat the test with hardened mode activated.

Well, with Moderate hardened mode, anything that triggers DeepScreen would automatically get blocked. There would be no sample that would trigger it and then be allowed to run. In Aggressive Mode, it pretty much switches into a different way of operation and doesn't even fire up Deep Screen at all, it just queries the cloud and white/blacklist. So, with Moderate, it should be a bit better and with Aggressive, pretty much 100%. I'm not aware of situation where Aggressive Mode would ever be bypassed.

impressed...I also tested this agressive mode few months ago nothing got passed.

a cloud lookup issue happens sometimes no ? or some server side issues...But with avast! they are quite fast to fix these issues unlike an other company I won't name. C.....

Yes. No reason to support them anymore. Pretty disappointed.
