IMO, the best bootloader device is a micro sd card, in a card reader or usb adapter. Does DC make the device bootable, or do you have to make it bootable first?

I also think that just putting the .iso from DC on an already bootable device, like an advanced truecrypt setup would work.

Can the key file be anywhere? Or do you have to embed it in the bootloader? If it can use a second external device, that would be nice. I don't see the point of embedding it in the bootloader... anyone who gets the bootloader can either boot straight up, or just try pass phrases... they have the keyfile already.

Yes you can put the bootloader on say a usb pen the option pops up. I assume one can use any usb device even a hard drive or memory card even via a mobile phones storage guess the options are plenty.

I liked dc over tc since it has that feature what I do not like is evidence of encryption at all since depending on where you are based this can be used against you. One thing dc does not do however that tc does is plausible deniability as in you can use encryption in hidden files, containers, drives etc
if an adversary wishes to force you to reveal your content and force the password your stuffed with dc !

Course a combination of both dc + tc can offer the best of both worlds.

Still with tc being in the state it is now its perhaps time to wait and see what happens or if another program takes its place shame Dc does not offer hidden encryption features.

The key file is embedded into the bootloader. You can keep the key file somewhere else so that you can use it for something else or to burn a new bootloader image in case your only physical copy gets destroyed.

As promised I have released a tutorial for using the really nice raw CD/DVD encryption feature of DiskCryptor and how easy it is to get access to the data again afterwards. I made a dedicated thread on the topic if you want to check it out, in the same section as this thread. Should be very useful since Truecrypt promised this feature and ended up never delivering it. I had been waiting for years for a raw CD/DVD encryption ability. If I had researched other software than TC I would have likely switched to DiskCryptor a long time ago.

Any way, I hope both the system encryption and the CD/DVD encryption tutorials really help to bring attention to this software and enlighten people to the way of using it. It is so worth it.

    Thanks.
