I thought it might be nice to have a dedicated thread for this :)

Here's a few links to kick it off.

If you are concerned about your privacy and security you should avoid safe-mail, openmailbox and anonimousspeech. Why? Here is why:

    anonimousspeech.png
    safemail.png
    OpenMailBox.png

I appreciate the effort of providing an ad-free, quality open source email service of openmailbox, they are "new" in this, run the company or whatever they are with donations, so I will let it pass for the time being (I have already contacted the administrator).
anonimousspeech and safe-mail have been working since '95 and '99, they are not free and obviously, they don't care about security, not even a little bit. No excuses. This is a huge mistake.

Be careful with some of this "safe" and "private" email providers out there...

Edit: for those who don't know, "ssladmin" should be a restricted account. It could allow the owner of the account to get an SSL certificate from comodo, globalsign... and then use it in MITM attacks.

So I'm curious (MrBrian)... I've read through some of that and if I gathered correctly saw somewhere that your choice was gxm.com... yet you mentioned in the same thread that it's still vulnerable to Heartbleed, and that their Germany based servers can hardly be trusted against the NSA's prying eyes. So that puzzles me a bit?... is that indeed your recommendation?

And if not, what is? Let's cut to the chase here and spare members having to dig through a gazillion posts and list the most highly recommended ones. I'm willing to trust your opinion as it's clear you've done a lot of research here. I will of course look into them myself afterward to confirm it with my own eyes, as I'm sure most Wilders members would. But it'd be nice to trim the list down a bit from a bunch of choices to a few... kind of like some of us did with VPN's in here awhile back.

Then this thread can serve as a nice, convenient place for people to find these quality webmail options... instead of just a way-station to follow a bunch of other links around.

I can confirm this much... AOL/AIM is garbage, and untrustworthy. And merely pointing out that it doesn't encrypt after sign-in, and is affiliated with PRISM doesn't even begin to explain how corrupt their outfit is. But that's a story for another thread/time...

@luciddream: I'm still looking around. The Heartbleed issue with gmx.com bothers me, but maybe it will be fixed. If you look at my criteria, I am focused more on encryption during transmission than protection from government spying, for now. Vfemail.net fits my criteria too, but I doubt I'll use it due to the issues that I noted.

Https://checktls.com/, mentioned in the link in post #14, is good :thumb:. The first test is for incoming email; the second test is for outgoing email.

The last time I tried to set up a GMX account using Tor, it wouldn't let me. But Yandex did. I have logged into a Yandex account many times using Tor.
