I reverted to 1.75. My license is still good but I'm running it only as an on-demand scanner. It still updates fine. The new version crashed on my system and installed a couple of services which run automatically even when not needed.

for free , you don't have; if you want real-time scanner (what you call "active") like MBAM Pro; Emsisoft AM is the only viable choice for me, it can run as companion AV (beside your main AV) like MBAM pro.

I'm using ChicaPC-Shield pro (a licensed version of MBAM 1.75) with my key to prevent MBAM forcing a product update on me....I'll leave V2 for a month or so until they get it right.

    Am I missing something here?

I have Scan for rootkits enabled under Detection and Protection but when I check the logs of my scheduled scans it shows Scan for rootkits is disabled (unless I choose that option in Settings > Automated Scheduling), yet if I manually run a Threat scan it shows as enabled.

Does Scan for rootkits work in real-time or only during scans?

    Thanks.

I experienced the same fenomenon as you Krusty13 the other day and i must say that this version 2 is extremly buggy and since one gets so many contradictive messages one can not trust it and know what is working or not . That feels very unsecure of course .

The scheduling of updates and scans are for me totaly hopeless and i have never got them to work - as far as i know - i have to do it manually .

As for the scheduling, I've found after reading here somewhere that if you untick Check for updates before scanning, the scans run on time. I have my updates set to Realtime > 5 minutes and that might be excessive, but it works for me.

I have 2.0.1 installed and manually checking for updates does not find the 2.0.2 update.

Just go back to V1.75, and use that. That's what I did. It is still as good as ever. In the mean time v2 might improve to a point when you might want to upgrade again.

if you already have the program installed it should start to roll out to users over the next few days via the internal updater.

fyi: same here, v2.0.2 installed on top of v2.0.1 (manual upgrade).

Unless the auto update feature has been disabled, which I believe is highly advisable.

    I think I've found a / the problem.

I thought I had done a clean uninstall using these instructions - https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=122284 - but I've found that this IS NOT removing all of mbam. For example, when I reinstall mbam it is automatically activated and my previous scheduled scans and logs are still there.

Does this mean that mbam-clean 2.0.2.0 needs to be updated to deal with mbam 2.0.2?

Should I rip mbam out of my system with REVO Uninstaller?

@Krusty13 I would just uninstall MBAM normally then after rebooting then run the MBAM clean tool 2.0.2.0 then reboot again to be on the safe side, that should remove everything including license info.

Thanks Banzi, I ended up using REVO - that did the trick. :thumb:

My V1.75 did an automatic scan just now and tried to download and install V2 on it's own. I clicked Cancel. I'll do it if I think it's ready. :cautious:

In v1.75 go to Settings | Updater Settings and uncheck the box "Download and install program updates if available."

Wow you guys don't use limited user accounts. :O

My Malawarebytes would never automatically update no matter if I set it to or not. I had it set to. Would never work. :(

Wanted it to but it won't on my pc or my mom's.

MBAM *IS* a culprit for slowing boots, and it doesn't uninstall cleanly.

After all of these tribulations I've given up on MBAM for this year. But even a hardcore manual removal, my system boot speed never returned to it's speedy self of 12 seconds. So I backed everything up, reformatted my Windows 8.1x machine, installed ESET, and will leave it alone. It boots in approximately 11-12 seconds now, and I will not put anything on it that impacts that boot speed. It's not worth it.

I will check back with MBAM the first of the year.

Well, the first scan after reinstalling shows that Scan for rootkits was enabled, but my scheduled scan just completed without Scan for rootkits enabled.

    Yet another bug!

When you created the scheduled scan did you choose the custom scan option and check the box for rootkit scanning?

v2 seems to create some trouble while windows dns service is active (~28000 entries in hosts file). it locked and was stuck while update signatures and locked any web program also that time. i need to kick mbam and all services to get back to normal work. could not reproduce with build 1000 (b1004 not tested). without dns service no problem.

What a disaster. I'm done with MBAM until next year, to which I will see if all of this is resolved.

I reformatted my personal PC. The 12 second boot wouldn't return, even with Avira, Mbam and other boot offenders uninstalled. Now it's 12 seconds, and I am leaving ESET alone on it - that's for sure.. Hopefully they will have this sorted by next year. As of right now I feel my 6 lifetime licenses are wasted cash.
