I'm trying to find information on the BIOS versions, but none seem to state specifics about which version (if any) will support the jump up to 6 gb/sec. in transfer rate. So I'm wondering about whether to stick with this 3 gb/sec. one I've got on hand, or purchasing a new ones. And whether to go about flashing the BIOS or not.

Was hoping someone here could shed some light on the topic...

That sort of thing is a chipset limitation, not a CPU limitation. Are you talking about jumping from SATA II to SATA III? If you are that PC has SATA II ports, there is nothing you can do to make them SATA III ports.

Well in the first place I fouled up by saying CPU when I meant HD... so that got everything lost in translation. But you seem to have saw where I was trying to go with this.

Thanks... I thought so too, but saw people in this Dell forum saying that with an updated BIOS it could utilize that 6 gb/s. I was like: "umm... how?" But figured I'd get a second opinion in here from people whose wisdom I trust a lot more.
