Yup, you are definetly dreaming. There was a discount for Wilders members which was quite generous but never was there a free version.

    Hi Waj

I would love to see a two stage release. 1) just current AX64 with warm restore 2) AX64 warm release and then the kitchen sink added. I ask for this as I have no interest in multi partition and hardware independent restore, etc.

I agree you will need more money for those kitchen sink features, as they will add to your support costs.

Just wondering how we will get those free keys and/or discounts for the new versions? Keep checking here or what?

I've been reading over this thread and have installed ax64, but with ax64 merging with the realcopy and the somewhat imminent release of v2, what is the best thing to do now? Wait until 2 is out? Wait until a coupon is out? Wait until the merge is done?

The version 2 said to come in May is a beta if I read it right. I will wait for the released version 2 and see how it flies before I upgrade. I'm sure at that time, we'll find out what the cost of the upgrade will be. If I remember right, Isso said (while he owned AX64) that any free or discounted versions were up to but not including Version 2.

I guess some of you missed what waj wrote a page back. For those of you who did here it is again.

After restoring from an image, I get "BOOTMGR IS MISSING PRESS ALT CLT DEL TO RESTART" why is this happening?

Thanks, I actually did that and everything is fine now.
The wrong drive letter was the active partition, so I had to fix that also.

Love this software! 22 GB OS drive backed up (from SSD to magnetic) in 2 min 45 seconds.
Just bought it, then just saw Wilder's users get a discount, but I don't mind paying full price for this great software :)

Looking forward to new version! :)

Using this with DiskCryptor full disk encryption.

Anyone have cold restore working like this?

No, cold restore will only work with cold imaging (both disk and image encrypted). Hot restores do work with hot imaging (both disk and image unencrypted).

I combine AX64 Time Machine with Parted Magic's Clonezilla for my TrueCrypt System Encryption. Make sure to store the AX64's hot images in a secure place, like a System Favourite Volume.

You are not alone,,,,I was eligable for the discount but chose to pay full price to support the then developer (Isso). These guys need to make a living.

How can one prevent my situation from happening again?

Try cold restore from rescue media, that's usually more reliable. Or another disk imaging product. You can always update the system after restoring from something else, although it will be slow (cause AX64 can't track those changes).

The lesson for you all is to not rely on AX64.
You are taking a huge gamble if you do.

If you like it, then make sure you have some other more reliable backup program as well.

But really, I've yet to see cold restore fail. In your case, it was incompatible, but that's different and can be easily detected by trying it out beforehand.

I'll still rely on it to restore to specific points and keep up-to-date. Never seen it fail consistently, and percentage-wise it's far from a gamble.

Then keep relying on it. I won't be.

For some reason we seem to keep covering the same territory. We must have discussed this at least 3 or 4 times.

For most the consensus was that it IS a good idea to use 2 imaging apps regardless of what apps they are (some did disagree of course) and not just in the case of AX64. Many of us have found AX64 to be very reliable, others have had issues on occasion. I used to use Paragon Backup and Drive Cloner, now I use AX64 for quick restores and Drive Cloner just in case. In the year I have been using AX64 I have not had to use DC once. If Hot Restore failed then AX64 cold always worked.

Still, to be on the safe side, I keep imaging with DC on a weekly basis and will continue to do so regardless of how often AX64 restores are successful.
