This issue hasn't reappeared after I did another reboot.

The SafeZone browser is based on an outdated version of Chrome/Chromium(28.0.1500.71) so there is no TLS 1.2 and you get lots of vulnerabilities.
It would also be nice if the Avast team would enable OCSP by default.

Oh and in the settings there is an option to place a SafeZone shortcut on the desktop, though there already is one. If I enable it, I get 2 shorcuts, "avast! SafeZone" and "SafeZone Browser".

After a couple weeks of use, I am really liking Avast Free. I configured it to have only the File Shield. I then disabled that shield such that I primarily use it as a right-click scanner to check downloads. When I go to bed, I often have it run a boot-time scan (a SUPER great capability!). I sometimes activate the File Shield when I'm going to be away from the computer for a while. Since I am running AppGuard & EXE Radar Pro, I don't think I need a realtime AV, so I use Avast mainly because (a) WHY not? - it's free! (b) Why NOT - it uses near-zilch resources, (c) I will NOT drop XP. Why not? - don't ask.

Why people always manage to complicate simple things to their very extreme? WHy do you have to go through all this if you could just leave it enabled all the time and let it do its job in real-time? It's not like it takes so mcuh resources...

In light of my other real-time security, I do not have a problem that needs a real-time AV.

What do you think of using SSM and Avast with Avast doing real time though? Should I anticipate any conflicts? If so where?
I see none with both of them running, and, like you, impressed with the small impact of Avast on XP.

Ah the good old days! System Safety Monitor was a favorite of mine in days of yore, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and a bottle of Coca-Cola cost but a nickle. My archives still contain SSM 2.4.0.621-beta.exe, the last SSM version I ran before switching to Cyberhawk.

SSM was very powerful, and it played nicely with every AV I used back then (I switched AVs often in those days). SSM probably will get along just fine with Avast -- but that's only a guess on my part. I haven't run SSM in quite a long time.

You know, of course, that there are newer HIPS nowadays, & they are still supported - whereas SSM is not. AFAIK, none of the newer HIPS are stand-alone but are, instead, packaged with other security stuff. A few examples of security pkgs with a HIPS (you likely already know of them) are: Private FW, Online Armor FW, Outpost FW. Ergo, if you want to consider other good options, one of them might be:
Private FW (free) + Avast + a good Imager. This threesome could give you a good (& light) security combo for XP.

And now for the rest of the trouble .... :cautious:

Oh cmon, stop the nonsense about prohibition of comparing apps. It's the most idiotic policy i've ever seen on any forum. It's the opposite of what all forums stand for. Sharing opinions.

avast! certainly has a bit of protection consistency issues lately, however, Qihoo has quite some false positive with their QVM engine which might be annoying. But other than that, they are both still great products. You may want to test both and see. I have after re-testing nearly all free AV's back to avast!. Despite a bit of detection problems lately it's still the most well rounded app.

    @ RejZoR thx.
@stapp sorry for breaking the policy. Anyway this policy (prohibition of comparing apps) it is a bit unnecessary, but hey my opinion.

After this last update, I've moved from Avast Free to FortiClient. This is the second time that an Avast program update caused me to have to use System Restore. I'll see if over the next week if it slows down my machine to look for another solution. I've always liked the Greyware and parental controls feature, so maybe I will no longer need to run MBAM2 in realtime...

I think it does. Use SSM on and off and see no issues. Doesn't mean something won't hit.

Yes, I know. Still most comfortable with my firewalls (Kerio, Sunbelt 4.7) or Outpost but that only on Win7 since on my XP many versions caused me trouble coming out of standby.

I finally gave in & bought Avast Pro (just under 20 bucks for a year). Did so to get SafeZone (SZ).

I NEED HELP: SZ lets me load my notepad. SZ also lets me cut&paste data therein (such as confirmation numbers). SZ also lets me save the notepad to a file. However, after I exit SZ, the "saved" file is nowhere to be found. How can I REALLY save data obtained during an SZ session? Is there a way?

I've installed avast! on all my systems again. 6 devices ranging from Android mobile phones and tablets to laptops, desktops and Windows 8.1 tablet. At the end of the day, week, month or a year, avast! just works the best.

I use free. No safezone experience. But I did see these threads related to what you ask.
Bad news, but take a look at post 7(cloudo_O), 9, 12, 14 as these might help

Maybe better news - see post 5

If none of this works, maybe someone on Avast forum will help you, but I have a hunch nobody knows if you don't.
    Good luck :)

Thanks act8192! The first link has the only solution that works (so far) --- namely:

In SafeZone's settings --- ""Allow clipboard sharing between desktop and SafeZone". This lets you copy to the clipboard & have the info remain AFTER shutting down SZ.

PROBLEM: The Clipboard replaces each text that is copied with the next following text that is copied. I vaguely remember there was some way to set the Clipboard to accumulate successive copied texts, instead of replacing. Does anyone know how this is done?

I've asked this on a few other sites in the past, from what I've been told its simply not possible with windows inbuilt clipboard...You may have to use a third party alternative....

Having configured SZ to allow clipboard sharing between desktop and SafeZone, I successfully tested a work-around for successive copy+paste actions as follows:

1- Copy to clipboard while in SZ

    2- Minimize SZ

3- Paste from clipboard to notepad (or whatever)

4- Maximize SZ (repeat copy-minimize-paste-maximize as desired)

This might reproduce the bug: Go into an Avast setting that you have configured to require a password. Enter your password. Exit settings. Now you may experience this issue.

Does the Avast SafeZone Feature work good and worth bothering with.
