Avira free does not have any nagscreens. There was a one time pop up which can be disabled. Then its totally nagfree.
@Inside Out, if you are suggesting that CNET disseminates malware, can you back that up with some evidence?

FWIW, Here is one discussion about it. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=304653 From the above thread, these two posts by a rep from CNet from 2011 so things may have changed since then of course. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1913668&postcount=9 https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1914102&postcount=14 And another long discussion here. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=342812 Edit: 1 min too late
Forticlient insists that user have late version of Internet Explorer installed. I won't do that. Ergo, Forticlient aborted the install. Oh well . . .
The latest Avira free doesn't have nag screens anymore. And also now includes cloud detection. The best free AV IMHO.
thats interesting, idk that for op panda cloud does have ad in the bottom, but it's small and not a pop up
Panda Cloud is imo the least intrusive and doesn't require registration. And best of all, it auto updates program itself which is in most cases a painful experience with others.
Bitdefender free........no nags, registration, nothing Autoupdates hourly Transparent program updates Effective behavior blocker Effective malicious/phishing protection Light & effective
Actually you do have to register Bitdefender Free. It's a one time thing but you still have to do it.
Who wants to update the product comparison for free AV? I think Bitdefender and Forticlient should be added as well. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/free-antivirus-comparison-chart.290691/
Ads have returned to Panda; http://www.cloudantivirus.com/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=68115&tstart=0 Seen it a couple of times in the last few days.
As far as I know it still has some nags (reduced), but its hard to complain, considering the quality of the software. I went to Panda Cloud for the speed factor, and I was wondering if it is very light with the new updates. I was under the impression it was having some performance issues. Startup times?
Honestly Avira's ads are rare, I see them atmost once a week, that too near the tray icons. Not at all bad IMO.
fortinet forticlient is the most quite, but for older pc it is reported to be heavy. last time I tried it on i5 dual core, I didn't notice it at all.
I'm waiting for the first telephone calls from my friends regarding pop-ups . I think AVG and Fortinet are good alternatives without pop-ups, Bitdefender could be an option as well.
3 licenses straight away, Bill I am currently running the Free version on a Win 7 laptop. It replaced Qihoo which kept losing its real-time protection without any notification from the tray icon. Free version of Panda running very light so far without any problems.
