Experienced the first real bug yesterday.

I had turned of realtime protection of MBAM and I've set it to not start on system startup.

All was fine. No MBAM i taskbar for a few days. Auto-updated in the background for new definitions et cetera...

All of a sudden, MBAM alerts that it blocked a malicious IP-adress. I right click the systray-icon... and; realtime protection was on, web protection on, but start with Windows was still set to off.

So somehow MBAM started when a malious IP was encountered, even though it shouldn't have been detected because MBAM was off.

MBAM runs as both a service and an executable. Perhaps setting it to not "start with windows" only prevents the executable from running?

That sounds like a feature rather than a bug, if it springs into action when encountering malware. :)

Not when the user turned real time protection OFF. That's a bug.

I hope they get a lot of these bugs fixed in the next release. Things I have reported are still broken.

Back to v1.75 for me as I am sick of the JavaScript errors when using IE11. MBAM support recommended I install the latest version of Java....

I haven't read through all 17 pages to see if this was already brought up, so I apologize if it was:

Version 2 does not appear to have shell scanning (i.e. nice, convenient right-click context menu). This is the most important feature of the product for me. So am I missing something (an option) to turn this on? Are you planning to implement it in the near future? Or do I have to go back to v.1 again and set it up to only download definition updates from now on?

It is disabled by default (wonder why?).
Go to Settings->Genral Settings and you will find "Explorer context menu entry" option there.
    Choose "Yes".

Actually it is not. It is enabled by default.
You may be in for a shock, with version 1.75 scanning a file took 6 seconds, with version 2 , it took 3.5 minutes.
I reported this. It is a bug, and will be fixed in a future version

Same here on every single install with multiple OS architectures.

Oh well, maybe another bug, it wasn't on mine. According to their website, it's not supposed to be
    https://www.malwarebytes.org/support/guides/mbam/GeneralSettings.html
It says " This setting allows that capability to be turned on or off. The default setting is Yes (on)."

I just noticed today when you try to run a scan, it will tell you if the database is out of date before proceeding with the scan. I really like this, as most people I know who use it don't bother to update before running a scan.

I've noticed with v2 that unless I enable mbam to start with Windows it won't update or run scheduled scans [I've disabled the real time protection but would still like it to update and run scans]. Is this right? I thought with v1.75 you could disable the protection modules and not start with Windows and mbam would still update and scan.

    Thanks.

How can it update or scan if it's not running?

Well I was pretty sure that you did not need v1.75 to start with Windows for it to update and scan. I've been wrong before though.

You are correct. All protection in 1.75 can be off, including start with windows, and you can still schedule updates and/or scans.

    Thanks, DBone!

Do you know if this is the case with v2 or have things changed with the new version?

    Cheers.

I don't know as I have 1.75 installed and will stay with it as long as I can. Hopefully someone else can answer you better.

I have KIS running with Zemana Key-logger. I have a license also for MBAM, could I install it with my current setup, or will it be overkill so to speak?

    Overkill IMHO.
If you have safe surfing habits, there's no need to layer too much things.
KIS is already toward the top of the crop.
You can do an on-demand MBAM scan from time to time, but real-time over KIS is not necessary. (IMHO of course)
