A question. Does hmpalert-update start when I open a browser?

The update procedure is handled in the context of the browser. So it also starts the downloaded update.

Thanks. Can I update via the command prompt (Windows 7)? If so, how? HmP.Alert often updates inside a sandboxed browser...

    Hi all!
Regarding Heartbleed, were/are users of Alert protected from this?

How could a program installed in your computer protect you from a hacker attacking a Yahoo server, for example?

Heartbleed is a vulnerability on web servers (like Google, Facebook and Yahoo) and devices (practically only Linux systems) that run a specific version of OpenSSL. No antivirus or firewall on your Windows machine would protect you because the problem is (mainly) on a remote device.
Nonetheless, we actually thought about creating something for it. It is possible to check if a web server you are visiting is vulnerable for the OpenSSL Heartbleed attack, potentially leaking your IP address, user-agent, session cookie and/or login credentials to attackers abusing the Heartbleed vulnerability from remote. But since system admins around the world have been patching their web server software or installing updated firmware like a frenzy, it doesn't really justify an engineering effort on our part since the holes are in general already plugged - and we're pretty busy working on HitmanPro.Alert 3 ;)

Because of the many positive reports, I decided to install build 77 (Win XP SP2), all looked well, but I noticed that Flash movies where using a lot of CPU time in Opera. After disabling HMP.A, the problem dissappeared. Of course I did mark HMP.A as trusted in my HIPS.

Not a big problem since I´m waiting for v3, but still I think it´s strange that v2 caused so many problems, I hope v3 will be a lot more stable and compatible. :)

What are the current engines in use? Is there a place I can check this info out on my own from time to time?

    HitmanPro.Alert doesn't use engines.

This is odd as Alert v2 has no active component that can cause this. I'll try to reproduce. Thanks for reporting :thumb:

Will a new release of HMP be released when HMPA goes live eventually? I imagine they will interact with each other more than they do today.

A lame response without explaining further what you do use then. You do incorporate the work of other AV companies somehow and the names and number of such companies changes from time to time do they not?

I must say that I can´t be 100% sure that HMP.A caused the problem. Months ago I also installed it, at first everything looked fine, but after reboot my PC started to act weirdly. So I was inclined to think that HMP.A was the culprit.

Btw, I´ve been reading about malware, and is it true that banking trojans are using inline hooks, and modify the EAT/IAT?
Can this be stopped in real time?

Btw, sorry for this question, I forget that you actually answered it already in post #701, my bad. :)

The reason why I asked again, is because it still bothers me a bit that this is an "detect only" tool, while other apps claim that they can actually stop these Man-in-the-browser attacks in real time. But perhaps it´s out of HMP.A´s scope.

Hopefully that means v3.0 public beta is around the corner :ninja:

I love the anti cryptolock feature but it interferes when I run bitdefenders file shredder.
