Malicious file execution vulnerabilities are found in many applications. Developers will often directly use or concatenate potentially hostile input with file or stream functions, or improperly trust input files. On many platforms, frameworks allow the use of external object references, such as URLs or file system references. When the data is insufficiently checked, this can lead to arbitrary remote and hostile content being included, processed or invoked by the web server.

    This allows attackers to perform:

    Remote code execution
Remote root kit installation and complete system compromise
On Windows, internal system compromise may be possible through the use of PHP’s SMB file wrappers

This attack is particularly prevalent on PHP, and extreme care must be taken with any stream or file function to ensure that user supplied input does not influence file names.

While this post relates to another application it is the same company standing behind it. It doesn't sound good for Qihoo. I will keep away of their applications.

Allow me to say that online armor is a bit paranoid and the fact that it doesn't recognize 360 browser doesn't say much. In the past I had several problems with online armor and programs that wouldn't install/uninstall and in one occasion I had to re-install windows.

Surely, false positives for the installer cannot be ruled out but what freaks me more is that screen logger and gaining control over several Windows processes were detected but I have to honestly admit that OA is really sometimes a pain.

I wish they'd include AVIRA as well like they do in Chinese version. Don't get it why they don't. Now i have to use Baidu+Qihoo to achive the same :p

Go right ahead, 360 will beat Baidu everytime, and for the record, I choose BD over A.

I would like to see it with the Avira engine (It could only help even more!)

But I think it works just great without it.

And with the version I'm running (4.9.0.4900) I have seen the web shield block sites in Google Chrome and this is something I haven't seen in the
    last few releases.:thumb::thumb:

In order to justify the addition of another definition based AV it would have to be shown that the added AV would yield added benefit to overall detection. In other words if a product already has multiple engines with (made up number) 90% detection, would there be any advantage to add another engine that has an overall detection rate of 85%, especially when definition overlap approaches unity?

I've actually done some work on this and have found that the addition of Avira may not be worth the increased resource burden.

I'm using Baidu+Qihoo and it's using like 20-25MB RAM together. I highly doubt doing that within single program shouldn't be any worse...

Trial-ed this AV a little more than a week. While I was generally impressed with the strength of its protection, I was disappointed that twice in (3) days the suite's protection modules turned off without warning, and gave no indication with the tray icon. In both incidents upon opening the UI 'Computer Protection was Off'. When I clicked Fix it is when it said there were missing or corrupt files, and the recommendation to reinstall the program. I did reinstall with the 1st incident, but removed the program after the 2nd one and reinstalled Panda. This issue 1st occurred on my XP rig, and with XP support ending tomorrow, I simply cannot take chances with any front line AV coming up crippled without warning. It did the same thing on my Win 7 rig once already too. If there is a 2nd incident it'll be gone from there as well. I might add that both PCs are clean, before and after these incidents. In over 20 yrs of using numerous different AVs I've never experienced one becoming cripple for no discernible reason like that.

Saw the same behaviour a few days after I installed 360 v.4 on a new laptop. As stated above, no warning from tray icon and only picked up that Computer Protection was off by chance. This bug needs fixing.

Currently using beta 5 with no such problems so far.

Having the two is useless, baidu is not going to detect something that Qihoo 360 misses ;)
and actualy no need for avira in it, Qihoo allready gets the highest score for protection at AV-test.

Aparently Qihoo's Proactive Defense isn't just a dumb suspicious actions blocker (HIPS). I was installing Baidu after i already had Qihoo installed and i got a warning that startup entry is being modified. After checking Qihoo logs, the action was automatically allowed. Apparently it will automatically allow suspicious activity, but only if it's being done by a trusted app. Nice.

Well any dumb HIPS do the same, it's just a matter of having a whitelist.

Knock it?! What the hell are you talking about? I simply spoke to my experience with the product. Simple as that. If it works for you, great.

Reading this concerns me a bit and forgive me in advance if this was common knowledge which it probably was since the article is close to 2 months old.
    From MENAFN.com a financial website.

360 Total Security is originated from its Chinese version, but improved in shape, interactive design in line with using habits of foreign users, including functions for security, computer optimization, online shopping protection, garbage cleaning and startup acceleration.

It seems inevitable that a perfectly good product, in the name of improvement, ends up adding components almost nobody wants, but this is what will keep the product free. More unnecessary bloat. Talk me off the ledge here but if these additional components don't have an option for not installing, I will be one very upset user. I'll take care of my own PC optimization, garbage cleaning, startup acceleration, online shopping protection (another worthless toolbar?) etc. Please don't do this Qihoo.

People hate it when it is added to their paid products, in a free version I don't mind a bit. Also Antony my comment was not directed at any post of yours
