Oh, so true ... not to mention all the broken mini-port drivers out there. I am looking at you NVIDIA :p.

9 seconds is amazing if you're getting the same coverage. A faster scan is only useful if it results in the same degree of detection. I don't know yet how the scans in 1.75 and 2.0 compare. Remember that a flash/hyper scan is intentionally abbreviated, trading thoroughness for speed. A faster scan is desirable only if I can feel confident that I will end up with a clean system.

I thought there were a limited number of lifetime premium licenses available and perhaps XP users would benefit the most. I didn't mean to suggest a $2USD

Giving some consideration to those with slim financial resources who can ill-afford to be subject to malicious encounters may be benficial to the business plan.

BillP continues to improve WinPatrol and the discount offers don't desreve your comments regarding "desperation". IMHO

    Hello,

OK, I've decided to try mbam 2.0 Pro Premium again - so far so good! Aside from the GUI bugs that have been mentioned in this thread, one I've been slightly annoyed by is the brief white flash popup on my screens each time I restart or shutdown my systems.

    Both machines = Windows 7 x64 SP1

    Norton 360 v21.2

    Thanks!

A suggestion to decrease scan times, build / write a white list so that files that do not change don't need to be repeatedly scanned.

    Hello RD,
Can you talk about why the Threat/Hyper scans in v2.0 generally take longer than the Quick/Flash scans in 1.75? Are they scanning more areas, undergoing more analysis? TIA

MBAM free, no auto start, program start=manually, not in background.

    * on program start

even when a:\ is on the exclude list - prrt prrt :thumbd:
(no disk inserted, that is detectable)

    btw are incremental updates off?

I'm assuming we're enumerating all disk drives so that when you click Custom Scan, it will be there ready to select. I'm not sure of this and will check with the team.

As a whole, what do fellow Wilderians who have upgraded think of MBAM 2? Is it :thumb: or :thumbd: ?

    I updated my 1.75 to v2.0
So far it seems to be working fine except for one issue:
I have a Pro license, but don't use the realtime protection. I have that disabled and unchecked Start with Windows, however a while after booting(I'm not sure how long, 15 minutes perhaps) MBAM suddenly starts.
Oh and with 1.75 if you did an right-click scan and closed the GUI after that, MBAM closed as well, but in v2.0 I have to manually Exit via Systray after a right-click scan.

I can confirm that, BoerenkoolMetWorst. I think scheduled events like database updates can trigger the start of MBAM. All this is especially annoying for license holders who don't need the realtime protection because this triggers the pop-up warning me of impending doom as well. The free version exits properly as well.

Personally I think the release was perhaps a bit rushed and I was surprised that RC1 made it to final without alterations. Maybe they released it early in order to be able to switch to the new licensing model.

That said, it actually runs quite well with real-time protection enabled. The issues I have experienced are only relevant to license holders who don't want to use the real-time protection.

We're hoping to release the new UI to 2.0 users and the website tomorrow (hoping!) and then to start slowly upgrading 1.75 users if they so choose early next week.

If you do not wish to receive the upgrade, make sure you uncheck the box in 1.75 on the Settings tab -> Updater Settings

    Thanks everyone :)
