I already had done that -- right after I installed 2.0. It ignores that setting. It also scans automatically even though I configured it NOT to do so. When I click "cancel" the scan, it keeps on scanning. It also updates automatically even though I configured it not to do so. It also takes nearly 5 minutes for it to load its GUI. It also freezes all other activities on my computer while it does this.

In short, 2.0 is NOT the useful MBAM that I had with version 1.75. Unfortunately I erased that version right after installing 2.0. Lesson learned -- henceforth I will keep old versions for at least a few weeks after replacing them.

I shall put MBAM on the shelf -- far back on the shelf -- until it gets out of *beta* stage.

    Hello bellgamin:

The above reads like you had the PRO version of MBAM 1.75.0.1300 previously installed before the upgrade to MBAM2.

If you wish to return to using the earlier version, you may download a "bit perfect" v1.75.0.1300 installer from File Hippo.

If you had/have not run mbam-clean.exe, the re-install should pick-up your previous license ID & Key along with your previous settings.

If you would like the help of a Malwarebytes' staffer with MBAM2, you could open a thread in the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help sub-forum.

    HTH :)

Sorry if it's been answered already. I don't have a lot of time to read through all replies. But, can we install the final over the 2.0 beta?

    Thanks!

Yikes, Mr. bellgamin! I built a PC May of 2011 and installed W7 SP1 and have just been letting it's firewall do what it pleases (which seems to be nothing). Prior to this new era though I was always messing with different firewalls and you were a mainstay on that forum. You then vanished and there was at least one "What happened to bellgamin?" thread. I suspect many of us feared the worse. Needless to say a pleasant surprise for me anyway, however, perhaps you've been "back" for a long time and I just never ran across the threads.

Okay, I waded thru the first 6 pages of this, and skipped the next couple, so might have missed this there somewhere.

I'd upgraded my 1.75 to Pro a few months back, primarily to honor one of the two most common suggestions for preventing invasion by Crypto-Locker, and was quite happy with it. And upgraded to 2 when it became clear that the release was now final. Only two problems I've found so far, one of which apparently relates to the installer rather than MBAM itself (I updated over the top, by the way, using the link in the MB News section of Updates).

    1) When installing, I left in the usual option to add a desktop icon. Normally I try to keep my desktop reasonably clean and compact, and group related icons into desktop folders (Games, Internet, System Utilities, etc.), and move new icons into the appropriate folder. When I tried that with your new one, I was denied permission as supposedly not an administrator. I always do log in with my administrator account -- granted, not the recommended approach, but I'm the only user on this computer so that should cut my risks somewhat. Interestingly, when I copied the icons into appropriate folders, I was then fully free to move, rename, or even delete those copies. Any suggestions for getting rid of the "extra" one still out on the desktop?

    2) Scheduled scans -- on 1.75 Pro, it ran a Flash scan every day as part of the startup procedure, which was quick enough that it was typically done by the time I got back to the computer with my morning coffee. Plus I'd do a weekly on-demand Quick scan as part of weekend cleanup. On new ver. 2, I'm trying to set it up as near as possible to the old version ... Ideally, I'd like a Hyper scan (which doesn't seem to be operable yet, runs as Threat scan instead) when first starting up. Oh, and the Threat Scan takes about 3x longer than the former Quick scan did, with what seem to be the same settings.

Looks like you might have bitten off more than you chew this time around, too many major changes all at once.

You are probably seeing the new features of the new Self Protection Module doing its job. You can open the GUI, go to Advanced Settings, and untick Enable self protection module to move, delete, rename or otherwise change some of MBAM2's elements. Please remember to re-enable when you've completed your changes.

If the Hyper Scan feature isn't enabled, then something within MBAM2 isn't recognized as a TRIAL or PREMIUM version. Making sure you've saved your license ID and Key, as you may wish to re-install v2.00.0.1000.

After months of testing, many troubles are corrected with a reboot or a re-install. If yours is not the case I strongly urge you receive the Malwarebytes' one-on-one product support your patronage deserves.

    HTH :)

Reboot alone took care of both problems, or at least the Hyper scan runs fine on-demand; I'll have to see what happens with it as a scheduled scan tomorrow when I boot up.

Many thanks -- I really should have tried the reboot before my previous posting, since that's pretty much standard procedure with any update of a starts-with-Win program. Sometimes even just a settings change won't take effect until after restarting. Maybe for newbies, and those with "senior moments" like myself, it wouldn't hurt to add that to the installation instructions, ideally with a "Reboot now" button as the last step on-screen before the installer closes.

One more suggestion for consideration: When editing the options for a particular scan, would it be possible to add a "Recurring" (ideally, daily) choice when the use selects "On reboot" as the frequency? There's a 2 or 3 hour window during which I might start up on any given day, so a scan on bootup would be handier than at a specific time. That was the default setup for the Flash scan under 1.75, IIRC. Especially since it looks like the "retry missed task" item (under advanced settings for the scan) only allows for one retry.

    Thanks again, and best.

    I'm happy that you're happy! :D

On one of my systems, I'm setting MBAM2's Threat Scan at once per day repeated daily.

I've also set a Check for Updates on start-up, but so far I'm not triggering any kind of MBAM2 scan because I'm usually trying out too many new things and the first few start-up minutes on that system are getting too much. I'm probably going to need to delay a few things if I keep this up. :doubt:

    Cheers

It seems he sees the "pretty face" in the Free version (he reviewed), as he doesn't mention the red face of the Pro version, with some settings.

Give us just another week and a chunk of this goes away. We're working as fast as we can! Then we get back to fixing other UI elements and stability issues.

Without committing to these (because my team will kill me if I do!) here's what we're thinking about releasing in about a week and a few days.

    1. change all the aggressive red colors to a calmer red, change all the aggressive orange colors to a calmer orange

    2. switch more notifications from red to orange leaving only protection off and malware detections as red, database notifications should be orange

    3. on first launch ever after install, you shouldn't be getting a database out of date notification, that will scare most users, we'll fix this

    4. if the UI is in focus, you shouldn't be getting additional tray notifications, only if the UI isn't open, we'll fix this

    5. change notification size to be a bit smaller by reducing the color portion of it for now

I know this doesn't seem a lot, but it's a first pass at all of the feedback. We think it will come off a bit less rogue-ish and buy us time to get back to improving stability and various other UI components.

That being said, we also have a feature in the backlog to allow you to create your own themes. Then you guys get to have some fun with this :).

About 3, I wouldn't mind having f.i family members/friends given a message when having MBAM installed fresh.
Perhaps not from a negative 'Outdated-Bad' pov but a 'Updates are available-Good' message?
Or something like 'We advice to update before the first scan'.
Seems logical to me but I can imagine the tight rope between informing new users and over-informing above-average users.
Changing the GUI, I'd hide the option well (old school Easter Egg perhaps?) to avoid any new users from thinking they (or something) seemingly borked the program that they were told will safe their behind.

    Weird Rubenking review btw link;

Marcin's modesty may have kept him from mentioning the steps that will be taken soon to assist the vision challenged with MBAM2.

That is a big deal when compared to our feelings about the GUI.
