I have considered the Surface, but I am not too keen on Windows 8.1. It is a bit bulky as a tablet IMO.

Oh right, I reckon it's the Nexus I'll go for then. ;)

So which one will you get? Nexus 7 or 10? I recommend Nexus 7 as
    More here.
If you do get Nexus 7, which one would you prefer 32GB Wifi or 32GB Wifi, LTE, HSPA+?

Well the 32GB Wifi version has 32GB memory and has only Wifi connection. No mobile network. So no mobile LTE or HSPA+ internet. With the 32GB LTE version you can use internet on Wifi connection as well as the mobile network connections like LTE and HSPA+.

I'll only really need a WiFi connection. That's a tad cheaper right? :D

If you want more portability I'd go for the 7". Else if you prefer a larger tablet then the 10". The only thing I dislike about the Nexus 10 though is that it is old :p

I think the next gen 7" should be OK.

The 7" is probably the one I would go with in the end.

You can see prices (sterling ;)) here: http://www.google.co.uk/nexus/7/

Yeah it's cheaper according to the link by SweX

Well Nexus 7 brings you the perfect mix of power and portability and features the world’s sharpest 7" tablet screen - putting over 2.3 million pixels in the palm of your hand.

With 323 pixels packed into every inch, you can read text that’s sharper than the printed page, see images more vivid than the highest quality photo magazine, and watch videos come to life in vibrant 1080p HD.

    From: Tablets: Where's the Productivity?

I've got a BB PlayBook 2 64GB, which I bought for £129 when there was a sale about 15 months ago. What attracted me was the quality at that price, and also that I wanted to avoid the Android OS (for several reasons), and iPads are very pricey.
It was thought for a time that they would be eligible for the then coming BB10 OS, but this never happened, and who knows what could happen with that company.
But they are still supported, and might be worth a look, if you see one.
Past 6 months or so, seldom use it (mince pies fading, inevitably :D ), so can't give any recent info. http://us.blackberry.com/tablets/reviews.html

Daveski, very sorry about your illness, and hope you may continue to recover as much as possible.

    All the best for now.

Google Nexus 7 is a good choice, especially that you gonna be getting updates directly from google.

Glad you are enjoying your new Nexus 7 tablet, you made a great choice in getting it.

Personally I would stay away from Samsung tablets due to the bloated slow & laggy touchwiz\magazine UX they use :)

Go for the Kindle Fire HDX. Best screen out there, ease of use, and low cost.

Avoid I-Anything.. I cannot believe people still buy I-Stuff. Makes no sense.
