I've added Ad-Aware free, as another on demand scanner. I have no real time protection to slow my computer down.

  2. Please don't start this discussion again (sandboxie versus Chrome or other ways of policy containment/sandboxing) :ouch:

    1. Sandboxing or Policy containment or a combo of it, is all good
    2. There are many implementations of sandboxing/policy containment (Sandboxie, DefenseWall, Bufferzone, Comodo, AppGuard)
    3. Depending on you belief: you will prefer one above the other

I was surprised to see AppGuard in that list, I had thought of Sandboxie and AG as being two unique layers, but can see that they are both policy containment software. I sometimes run AG with SB (and wouldn't combine the others in that list with SB), do you think AG would be redundant with SB and only one or the other are needed for policy containment, or does AG add protection that SB doesn't cover?

edit: Or maybe I'm misunderstanding and sandboxing and policy containment are 2 different things.

Try Immunet3 without ClamAV or Tetra engines enabled. Good realtime protection, now slowdowns - at all, and only 13mb of ram. You can stack it with MBAM/Chica realtime, and still get no slowdowns with layered protection.

I'm super picky about AV's slowing down my machines, and this combo actually doesn't slow anything down, and I have timed it with application benchmarks.

Like a Dr, I can recommend Sandboxie and I know is addictive but if malware would do its thing against SBIE, you would not to get hooked.;)

  6. AppGuard
= guarded aps are not allowed to write to UAC protected folders = policy HIPS
= deny execute on all folders outside UAC folders = anti-executable
    = memory protection = anti-exploit

    Sandboxie
= sandboxed aps are not allowed to interact to "real system" writes are rerouted to sandbox

Like many on Wilders have discovered they form a nice pair. When you have not got the lifetime license of SBIE, I would use SBIE Free for dodgy browsing and pay for AG (as long as you use IE or Chrome on Vista or higher). SBIE is great addition on XP or when you prefer Firefox or other browser without LOW rights container.

I just tried it briefly. I removed it due it quarantining threats without prompting first. When you set it to prompt, it still auto quarantines threats, and straight after asks if you want to restore the threat. This seems pretty illogical to me - why no prompt before quarantining threats instead of afterwards?

But thanks for the suggestion anyway :)

Well, Kees, don't forget, there's always the option to not read something if you aren't pleased with it. ;)
And for the record, I didn't start the discussion, I asked the member where he got his info after he started it.
But that was 2 or 3 days ago, so maybe you're starting the discussion again?
Either way, discussions are bound to be repeated... a forum is a changing dynamic with many members coming and going in and out. It's not like everyone read the same thing at the same time on the same thread, and to discuss it again is such a crime.

I just installed Comodo FW in a Virtual Machine to test out and I am impressed. Hadn't tried it recently and didn't even know it had a simpler GUI. I am trying to find a FREE FW to install on Family and Friends computers that can be easy once setup. Comdo FW seems to fit nicely and I wonder how it gets along with Q360 Internet Security which I also like.

DJa2k Comodo firewall and qihoo 360 IS are a killer combo. I'm sure cruelsister will chime in shortly but it is a light and powerful combo. Qihoo has some great detection rates and proactive seems to be good too. Comodo catches whatever small amount the qihoo misses. Running sandbox in full virt is key as well. Give it a try. The firewall runs smoothly.

i did use similar setup almost 3 months, but i did have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro and Anti-Exploit too.
But then i kicked Webroot away, and miss it today. i think my license expires very soon.
i think i keep it away, i wanna save some money,
gonna buy Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit license when it's out...
