Apologies for the newb question, but I am a newb. :)
I've been looking into Truecrypt and DiskCryptor, but halted pretty early on when I've seen that neither are compatible on Windows 8.1 according to their supported OS lists. Is support for 8.1 coming any time soon, and why not supported already?
I only have Home Edition of Windows, so I don't have access to Bitlocker.

I run TrueCrypt 7.1a on Windows 8.1 with no problems. I use it only to mount devices though (I don't mount whole disks or system).

I see, I wonder why it's not on the supported OS lists then.

If you try to encrypt windows 8 with TC system encryption and your system boots with UEFI, TC will not be able to encrypt it.
TC will install on Win8 and generally you will be able to create non-system volumes as reported in previous posts. You can sometimes disable UEFI and use Legacy BIOS setup.
If you dig through the TC forums, you will find a handful of specific Win8 issues that cause problems even without system encryption.
