AV for Google Nexus?

Dave, as a recent owner of a Nexus 7 myself I went a few months without any anti malware program. I had tried many on my phone before settling on Sophos. On my tablet I decided to try ForeSafe Mobile Security. It's really different and the behavioral scan and analysis provides quite a bit of information about your apps.

Another program that I recommend is OS Monitor. Lots of information about your tablet and you can check outbound connections of your apps.

Dr Web lite also gets my vote for a tablet for the reasons others have already mentioned. You can turn off real time detection and use it on demand if you choose.

OK, thanks for the reply. Sophos was very popular here in the UK as a preinstalled AV on many machines at one time. It was used a lot in schools and colleges.

Any android antivirus that is too much active/paranoid will unnecessarily drain the battery. I use Bitdefender free, which is the simplest one available but totally depends on the cloud. It only scans the apk files during installation and i think that is enough.

One good addition for any android device is Norton DNS. According to my personal experience their domain filtering is excellent and provides another extra layer of security.

I also would recommend DNS Please because their servers filter out malware and virtually all ads on the phone including ads in apps.

If you're looking for a free av for the meantime, you could take a look at this list. It doesn't list WSA Mobile free. But you know about it now.

 

So everything is sandboxed anyways and you might get some battery drain.

Me? I use a banking app and have some shopping apps on my Android phone.

It has a web browser on there. Sandboxing or not I run an AV for peace of mind.

If it's light and cheap what do you have to lose?

The KS Mobile CM Security app wanted waaaay to many permissions for my liking.

 

I'm a fan of what works and is trouble free. On my NextBook, DrWeb, or ALYac Android Tablet (Roboscan) fills the bill.

 

I have been quite happy with Avast + MBAM on my two Droid devices...

 

I recommend using Dr.Web Light (free) or Bitdefender.

 

I use Lookout on my Galaxy Nexus.
