What does anyone recommend for a Nexus tablet? The free Kaspersky AV looks good & there's also MBAM of course. I have no idea about security solutions for Android, so I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I recommend Clean Master from KS Mobile (aka Kingsoft) as not only does it offer excellent malware protection, it does a much more through cleanup of junk files than any other Android app I've used.

Prior to this I was using 360 Mobile Safe, and before that 360 Security (both of which offer excellent protection, and incredibly fast scan times). I switched to Clean Master due to its junk cleaning abilities.

If you only download apps from Google Play, the chance of getting infected it extremely minimal.

Free Kaspersky is rubbish. Take a look at others imo. From my experience, avast! and DrWeb are by far the best options.

Actually Kaspersky is top in detection and very consistent performance over time :)

I know it's good on desktops, it seems popular on Android.

OK thanks for the reply. What are the disadvantages of free Kaspersky exactly?

Free Kaspersky for android is very limited, only works with cloud (no local signatures) and that's it.

Would it be sufficient alongside MBAM do you think?

In my opinion you don't need an AV on Android as long as you're a careful user.

Edit to add: On my Nexus 5 I rooted the device and flashed a custom hosts file, which will block ad's and malicious sites.

OK thanks. What about something like MBAM as an antimalware app?

If it would give you peace of mind then it's worth a try. If it's just you using the Nexus device though and you use common sense you'll be fine without security software. I think if you're the type of person that doesn't get infections on Windows, then you'll have no problems on Android. If, however you do get infections on Windows it's probably best to use security software on your Nexus device.

Blocking ad's is a big step forward in protection imho.

OK thanks for the advice. I use a minimal approach on Windows (MSE, MBAM-on demand, SpywareBlaster, browser hardening etc) & I seem to be OK. I'll have to give Android protection (or not) some careful consideration. Avast & MBAM are looking good at the moment though.

Ive tried a few but settled with drweb lite as its nice and light and not intrusive.I would also recommed something like adaway which removes ads.If your new to to nexus and want to root it so that you can install adaway and other apps that require root ,check out wugfresh nexus root toolkit that allows you to backup your nexus root it and so much more

I recommend avast! My brother runs this on his Samsung Galaxy phone. It runs great and protection is solid.:thumb:
