I gave Firestarter a trial run and liked it, but considering the project seems abandoned, is it still a good option to use?

I like it better then the GUFW Firewall and manually doing IPtables is a bit too hard for me.

    thankyou.

The question I'm asking myself is: Why would you want to install such an application at all (unless you have really specific needs doing so)? No offense meant, but my impression is that you're still "thinking Windows".

Just remember that whether you use GUFW or Firestarter, they both rely on iptables. So just pick the one you find easier.

Our computers are under constant attack, so everything I can do to tighten things up the better.

you can do us download .deb fire form link i have given above and install it just like .exe of windows simple

install 14.04.1 will be installed and work perfectly well

also there are rules already created to block all incoming traffic by default

    :)

just set home profile and set unless you running any server defaults rules are enough.

if you have multiple computers and you want to secure them use UTM machine in front of them all the need is a one dedicated PC to work as UTM it solve all your problems

    there are many UTM distros

    Sophos UTM

    Untanlge

    endian

    clearOS

    IPFire

for dedicated firewalls if you have old p4 dual core system you can use it

    to run

    Endian

    smoothwall

    pfSense

if you are new to UTM try endian firewall i myself learn about UTM form endlan

or you can try ipfire they are pretty same...............

Thankyou, but not an option, as we are located in a few countries with various locations and most people are in the field, not the office.

yes it work perfectly well i am using in linux mint 14

    http://gufw.org/new

    Direct link

    https://launchpad.net/gui-ufw/gufw-14.04/14.04/ download/gufw_14.04.1.deb

you can check it by right and open on another window

    or

    https://launchpad.net/gui-ufw/ download

in that case you can still use VPN form central location to protect your systems or

best easy way is use DNS it add extra layer of protection

If this is true, you really should learn how to use iptables or find someone who can. It sounds like you need a more comprehensive ruleset than what any of the GUI applications are going to provide. You probably should also look into MAC protection.
