I switched from Chrome to Palemoon 64x only a week ago. Availability of various features, customization, memory use, etc., are notable.

I am currently using Firefox but want to switch away to something that has no Google affiliation. I am wary of the business model both Moozilla and Google use to offer free software.

Maxthon and Sleipnir are both proprietary. With Maxthon having the added bonus of being Chinese in origin.

Opera v12 (with the Presto engine) is still the best. :)

I'm also using Mozilla Firefox v27 as a backup browser, on fast systems it isn't bad at all.

Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Opera v19, are all jokes. :thumbd:

Im on SeaMonkey now. It has some cons and pros. One thing that I like about it is that I can put everything into one menu bar which means I maximize my horizontal space. Firefox had more restrictions. It feels a bit faster too and no annoying version numbering. The only cons I have is annoying page forwarding when double clicking with wheel button.

I voted for SeaMonkey as I've used it for so long as my default browser. Maxthon would be a close second though. These days if I'm not in SM I'm in Maxthon.

Then according to you (and this poll), in excess of 40% of the respondents have a great sense of humor. :cautious:

I voted for Firefox, but I have started using Opera more than usual recently.

I would have given Maxthon a try but it is not supported on Linux.

You don't actually have to login to the 'cloud' if you don't need/want to. It can be used perfectly well without cloud synchronisation.

Well, it's a bit faster, quite customisable & has a lot of inbuilt features. I wouldn't say it had any real advantages per se, it's just a very competent & able alternative. I find it always a wise decision to have a good reliable back-up or alternate browser. As I'm not totally sure what direction Mozilla are going with Firefox, & I'm not too keen on how some other browsers have developed, I like to have both SM & Mx.

Yeah right now my back up browser is Firefox. I haven't been happy with the direction that Firefox has been going for a long while too. Ever since 3.6 Firefox has been switching the position of menu bars, tabs and making it look like Chrome. It makes me wonder what the hell are Firefox developers thinkingo_O If I wanted Chrome I would have switched to Chrome long time ago.The entire version numbering that just hurts my brain, the constant updates that make FF incompatible with a lot of security products, etc...
I have had a long list of grudges against FF for a long while and now the tiles with advertisement have become the titling point.
SM works fine as long as I got my Sea Fox extension working and as long as other Firefox crap doesn't spill into it. I think the SM developers have done a great job separating FF bull **** from their SM project.
Im gonna give Maxthon a try and see how good it is.

I know how you feel about Firefox. Mx is a bit Chrome-like due to its sharing the same basic rendering engine. Although it reminds me more of Opera when it was good or Safari (for Windows) than Chrome, except, unlike Safari for Windows, it runs well lol!. The great thing about Mx is that it is feature rich & virtually self-contained needing few (if any) extensions. I only use the flash blocker & Maxthon Flag (like Flagfox). The inbuilt adblocker could do with improving though IMO. Give it a spin. I think you'll be impressed.

I don't live in a one browser universe. I am posting this on Opera 12.16. I also have Firefox, Seamonkey and Opera 9 running. Those are my main browsers but I have a couple of others installed.

I tried their beta and unfortunately I liked it (yes unfortunately) but it had a major drawbacks that kept bringing me back to Firefox for all those years. Mx doesn't have the menu bar File Edit View Bookmarks which I use every day. I just can't use a browser without those menus... Besides that the browser is very fast and responsive more so than Chrome. I would say this is a perfect Chrome/Opera alternative browser but I just can't use it to replace SM. Another advantage that SM has over Mx and other browsers including FF is that I can place menu bar, navigation bar and search bar into the same space right next to each other, which maximizes my vertical space. You can't do that in FF and Mx is simply lacking the menu bar and the search bar.
So it is a decent browser but it just lacks what I need in terms of UI.

There is a Linux QupZilla version. It has a full menu option. Unlike Mx the inbuilt adblock filtering is superb. It has an intergrated RSS feed. It also has built-in security features like an adblocker. The search engines DuckDuckGo & StartPage are default. I am not sure how the spellchecker works though. Give it a spin & see what you think. It is very light & quite fast.

I don't like the search bar in my browser but I like the Menu bar. You can have both in Firefox. For the Menu bar, go to options and tick Menu bar. For the search bar, go to Toolbar and drag the search bar to the address bar. I am not sure but I think that's what you want. My Firefox looks exactly as old browsers used to look with the menu bar all the way on top of everything, not hidden.

Yes now that I tried again I was able to customize FF exactly the same way. I was not looking for the old look but for my modified new look where all menu, navigation and search bars are on one line.

You can have the Menu bar, search bar and address bar all in the same line. But with the old look. You can do that by dragging the address and search bar next to the Menu bar.

It's all a matter of taste and needs. To me those browsers are jokes because I can't make them work, like I want them to. ;)

I must say that even though I use Opera v12 about 95% of the time, Firefox is growing on me.
It's quick to startup, plus the extensions are quite advanced. I now use it for sites that Opera can't display + plus for sniffing video files.

I've also checked out Maxthon, it has been improved a lot, but still not quite good enough. Overall I just don't like it.

Btw, can you use Google Chrome extenions in Maxthonv4 and Opera v19?
