Emsi expired and now using a discounted version of Webroot SecureAnywhere that I bought way back on Cyber Monday. AntiLogger Free is gone too because it conflicts with Webroot's ID protection.

I understand, I will use ESET like an example, if I disable the PUA,PUP, and Suspicious detection for the web protection, realtime & ondemand scanners, nothing of those will be detected, downloading a software including a PUA or toolbar etc.. will not be detected. Trying to access a website that is on the internal PUA blacklist will not be blocked. Not recommended of course but that's the solution for you if the AV you're going to use have detections for those categories.

I understand that too, I guess you need to continue your search for an AV that match those terms.

The same applies here if you had disabled the detection for PUA, PUP, Susp, unwanted/unsafe, ESET wouldn't have detected that piece wich it quarantined. Same for the websites nothing will be blocked or detected while downloading or installing if the right detection setting is disabled everywhere. I guess it kind of was my fault in ESET's case when you tested it since I told you to enabled the PUA detection in ESET wich is off by default :D I didn't know you were against those detections this much. Knowing that the majority wants them detected as they can be a pain in the bum to get rid of.

It's not hard to find an AV that has the features I want. However, I want one that is extremely light all of the time (when doing on demand scans is an exception) - and that rules out the majority of AVs.

I enabled it because I wanted to see what got detected with it enabled. The unwanted apps I'm talking about have an uninstaller and can be easily removed. I don't want toolbars or adware installed.

    Yep same here. :thumb:

I see, then that detection was quite expected. Though they are detected for a reason and 99% of the users don't think like
"eh I can use the uninstaller later on"(if there even is an uninstaller) They're usually upset and asks where it came from, and how the heck do I get rid of it, and how to prevent them from getting in, in the future.

I believe the unwanted/unsafe app detection warning have a "No Action" button wich one can click on if one wants to allow the download or installation to continue.

But each to their own and good luck in your hunt :)

In my case when unwanted programs get installed on my system, 99% of the time I installed them myself. The other 1% is for cases where an installer installed extras without asking first, or where I didn't pay enough attention to an installer, and either didn't uncheck them or needed to do a custom or advanced install to avoid extras being installed.

That's a good idea. A good example of the problems arising with detection of unwanted apps is OpenCandy. A lot of installers use OpenCandy to provide 3rd apps to be optionally installed. It needs to be noted that neither OpenCandy itself or any of the apps it offers to install are malicious. But, an antivirus may stop an installer from running because it detects OpenCandy, which is a problem because if you take note during the install and uncheck all 3rd party offers, then nothing extra will be installed.

    Thanks :D

Any particular reason for the switch? I love LastPass and found KeePass to be not as convenient.

Just reminding you J, WSA already performs everything that Hitman Pro Alert does unless something has changed in HMPA that I don't know of.

How do you like the backup and password manager?

I assume you're talking about HMPA, right J? What about WSA-C. How do you like the backup and password manager?

That question has been turned inside out and upside down on Wilders many times... never arriving at a definitive answer.

That's why I've stopped asking it in general and kept it precise to particular personal opinions and decisions which spark curiosity in me.

This is post #5000 for me, and I want to dedicate it to the members on this special thread!
Almost 2.5 million views and some 34 thousand replies, it's the BigDaddy of all Wilders threads.
The members who populate this thread are the backbone of Wilders.
As far as I'm concerned, their tireless efforts < ;) > in switching out programs day in and day out, week after week, have helped so many of us decide what programs to use, to discard or to consider.
I tip my glass and raise my hat, no wait, the other way around, to the heart and soul of Wilders!

As for my current setup, I'm running Sandboxie, and some other stuff. :thumb:

Exactly. And everybody goes on using what they use. For every 100 people choosing LastPass there are 100 favoring KeePass.
I run KeePass and don't care a lick about LastPass, but I'm glad you are happy with it!! ;)

Please don't take offense, guys, but I find it amazing some of you change your setup more often than some others change their underwear. You say you're free to do so, and I agree, but how can you make any qualified reviews of a program that was only on your system for an hour?

    ... Just wondering is all.

Well, you could say, at the very least, these guys are confirming for us that the programs in question uninstall cleanly! ;)
