    Never used Kate, but 100% agree on your notepad++ recommendation, After geany ofcourse :p

    Sublime Text and Brackets are pretty good too, especially for programmers; but somehow, I find myself going back to Notepad++ :blink:

    The best text editor is called "War!"? I never heard of it before...

    I'll stick with what's pre-installed for my simple needs.

    For code or plain text, Vim -- vi improved :)
    For formatted text, TeXShop.

    I keep trying emacs. I just *cannot* even get past the customization pages! I downloaded
    it again last night, and it's giving me an inferiority complex (again).

    Not much experience with any of the others.
