I didn't know anyone still used these! Back in the day, before threaded downloads(which are now internal to every browser) and downloading installer files they seemed very useful. These days, they don't seem like they have a purpose. GetRight was the best IMO back in the day, but I see little use for them anymore.

Let's consider - your biggest files are likely in torrent form, or come with their own downloader/installers, such as Steam, or Rift game clients. So what does that leave? In the days of speedy internet, even larger files are done in a fraction of a second, seldom over a minute. Long before a download manager would offer any benefit.

Edit: EagleGet looks great, I'd use that if I saw a need for a download manager, it has a nice clean Windows 8x style interface.

OUCH! Basically - it's a malware front end.

Not to sound negative, but I refuse to use any Chinese computer/security product or service. People need to realize that they lose privacy, and in some cases, legal protection when they do this. A few years ago I installed a well known Email Client, made in China. Then carefully watched my ports, and discovered it was sending a copy of every email to a Chinese IP address. That could be disastrous!

Also, a well known browser (chrome fork) used by millions and millions of people, was known to contain backdoors. ChromePlus even changed their name to mask their hideous activities - now calling it 'Coolnovo' browser. This has happened with a couple other Chinese companies if I remember.

Actually, I tend to avoid Chinese, Russian, and US products.(depending) Rather focusing on Polish, German, Finish, and other assorted country products/services.

The ADSL internet I use is sometimes fairly slow, and using a download manager for downloading larger files can make downloading a lot quicker. I download most files with my browser, but if a file is going to take a long time to download, I cancel the download and download it with Download Accelerator Plus or FlashGet.

I still use it, mostly for downloading torrents.

However the 3.x releases are completely different to the older releases.

I used to an old version of FlashGet to check for updates for about 200 programs every day.

Hard to beat IDM!, if you're looking for a free one that can be a replacement for IDM then go to FlashGet.

You can read about it on malwaretips.
It kind of debuted there & have improved a lot.

Currently there are 2 versions stable & beta.
I have tried both & to me both seems excellent.

    Currently no internet explorer support.
    Chrome & Firefox support only.

Tough competition to other well known download managers in my opinion.
