A little bit of clarification on Baidu, and Quihoo?

*PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER WITH WHAT YOU THINK IS THE BETTER OF THE TWO. I'M LOOKING FOR INFORMATION, AND FACTS - NOT WHICH OF THE TWO IS BEST*

So I'm very much enjoying the current security configuration I have right now, but I can't help but take notice to two antivirus programs in particular that have been the subject of much discussion lately. Baidu, and Quihoo antivirus. The two programs seem very similar in respect of an increasingly popular trend in the antivirus industry - multiple engines. Baidu Antivirus uses their own antivirus engine, cloud engine, as well as the Avira antivirus engine. Quihoo Internet Security (lacks a firewall, despite the name) uses their own antivirus engine, cloud engine, and the Bitdefender antivirus engine. Both of these products are very similar in more than just that respect. Both Chinese-made programs have very similar functionality, and features.

I am currently testing out Quihoo Internet Security as it seems to be the more popular of the two here on Wilders. The program is exceptionally well designed, and very easy to navigate. I wish that there was a firewall included with the program, so that I would feel more secure in running the program by itself without a third-party firewall installed. Baidu Antivirus on the other hand I have not installed, or tested yet. Both are so similar that it makes choosing between which of the two I like the most. Perhaps after a few days of testing the two I will be able to decide.

I have also noticed that Quihoo has participated in AVC tests, but Baidu has not.

What is Wilders opinion on these two programs, and do you know if Quihoo plans on including a firewall? Please remember to keep this strictly not A vs. B as per the forum policy. Thanks!

 

1. Qihoo provides a Sandbox Cleaner, Junk Cleaner, and Proactive Protection (a basic HIPS)
2. Qihoo's BD engine is updated 2-3 times a day. Baidu went months without updating the Avira engine, at least not for everyone. Right now I think they've settled for updating it once a week, although some people are still reporting issues with that.
3. Baidu Shaidu (with the Kaspersky engine) has been tested by AV-Test, while (I believe) the English version has been tested by VirusBulletin. Look at the results and you'll see for yourself what the difference in detection is...
4. Qihoo has been much more active social-networking-wise.

Can anyone comment on Quihoo's "questionable business practices"? I have not heard anything about this.

 

The last AV-C heuristics/behavior test for Qihoo was 2012. I have no idea why Qihoo declined to be tested again in 2013 given how well it did in the 2012 test.

Personally? There's enough free or nearly free stuff with better options out there to make me even consider something with a reputation for being shady.
