Which DNS servers do you trust and use?

And I am informed of DNS servers & I never
knew about even though I've searched for new
DNS servers to use over the years.

Thanks to all. And please comment if you've
tried one or more of the esoteric DNS servers.

 

I trust Norton DNS. Used it for a couple of years. Now I use my ISP's DNS because it's faster.

 

I've used OpenDNS for a long time now and recently just added DNSCrypt.

Hopefully my VPN doesn't log either. It's a personal choice. I'd rather use a service that doesn't log. And then also keep backup logs in addition to the logs that they delete. But I have a friend who's opinion I value a lot who has recommended using the German Privacy Foundation rather than OpnDNS. I have also seen some discussion in the last few years about them that makes me feel a little less than comfortable. Here is the latest.

I'm using openNIC's Tier 2 non logging servers http://wiki.opennicproject.org/Tier2 in conjunction with AirVPN.
I had to manually configure the DNS with Gnome Network-manager in openSUSE as I had massive leaks after importing the AirVPN OpenVPN set up files as per there guide - https://airvpn.org/linux/.
I generally connect to Air's Netherland servers and I use Swedish DNS servers and see no significant slow down.

 

That's cool, but your post was worded as if OpenDNS had malicious intent/or that they were doing it sneakily.

Anyway, the fact is they DO log. There's nothing to debate or be sceptic about, they don't hide it, it's a feature.

The link I posted earlier has a great list of DNSCrypt providers that don't log.

 

I usually stick with Norton Connectsafe, OpenDNS or Comodo DNS, Those three are the only ones I trust.

I never trust my ISP's DNS, due to DNS Leaks.

Right now, I am using Norton Connectsafe as my primary DNS provider.

Both. I wouldn't call them malicious websites though. I'd just define them as bad websites. That includes websites who will spam your email inbox if you give your address to them (and I put a strict border of special offer spams and pure phishing).

I am in a VPN 95% of the time and in this case I use my VPN providers DNS servers. When I am not using my VPN, I use OpenDNS along with dnscrypt-proxy.

 

Swiss & German Privacy Foundation are the only non-vpn DNS servers I have an would use, nothing else can guarantee privacy and my antivirus should handle virus and phishing, not my DNS. My DNS should be doing what a DNS does and only that while respecting my privacy.

 

AV slows down browsing, can be disabled and depends on signatures. A good DNS blocks domains and a possible unknown trojan dropper can not even download from there.

 

I used Comodo Secure DNS for a while and it is good enough I guess but I just realized that this "Malware Domain Filtering" thing does not mean anything to me.

So I am using DNSCrypt.eu right now.

Heh, most lists like that are incredibly weak and malware won't stay on the same domain for long at all.

 

I am using OpenDNS now, but i have doubts abaut what DNS is the best. I have been using OpenDNS, Norton and Comodo... i have OpenDNS now because it has stats and antibotnets.

 

With DNScrypt can you choose whatever DNS you like?

 

I recently discovered a new dns service that blocks malware as well as many ads. I find it really effective in blocking the ads in all of my devices on my network. My phones are virtually ad free in browsers and apps.

Was using Comodo Secure DNS, but dropped it because it was blocking certain content sharing/streaming sites. I've been experimenting with a couple different DNS services, including fool DNS for blocking ads. At this time, I am running Norton DNS without any notable issues/problems.

 

I use ones from the Wikileaks list at http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Alternative_DNS

Some of them are down at times, so it's best to use at least two independent ones.
