Spiking is annoying. I brought this up to BillP, and his suggestions didn't fix it.. Keeping in mind it is spiking a Quad Core 3.4GHZ machine with 12GB of DDR3 Ram, and a 760GTX graphic card.. BillP claims 2014 version SHOULD address the spikes I was getting on it.

We shall see.. For now I disabled realtime protections on all of the machines I use it on due to this spiking that wasn't controllable. Similar thing with Kaspersky, AVP.EXE would spike to 100% CPU every hour or two, and this was not acceptable - especially as a gamer. Uninstalled!

Yes but there is a huge CPU usage improvement in this v30 release.

Get out of here! Some feed back on the new release that is not GUI-related? What will they think of next?
    Thanks, Creer. ;)

I will give this a shot, and if that's true - this is a great change.. GUI notwithstanding. *puppy*

BillP did use the new Metro interface, but only for replacing icons. Installed without issues so far.

Careful, some pretty big bugs in this.

I added a program to delayed start, it disappeared. I added another, it disappeared as well. I added a third, and that one made it. I uninstalled WinPatrol, when asked if I wanted to put the delayed start programs back into normal start I selected YES. Rather than return them, it deleted them. I was forced to re-install a couple programs, and re-enable about others.

I will wait for future revisions to see how it works out.

    You're welcome.
I've asked Bill since 2012 if memory serves me well to do something with it (I had been noticing high CPU spikes when using WinPatrol on 3 computers in the past with every single version of WP till v30 has come) and finally yay - he fixed it :)

    Thanks Bill!

There is no option to not run WP 2014 at Windows startup.

I noticed that, too. I just controlled it with my TaskManager.

I disabled it in WP Startup Programs tab, but on reboot it loads a process WP Background Change Detector. I hope Bill P. puts that option back in to not load WP at startup.

EDIT. It is still there. From Corrine's Security Garden: "If, like me, you always want WinPatrol to start with Windows, don't worry, that feature hasn't been removed. Rather, the wording has been altered so now on the Options tab you'll see "Always monitor at peak startup performance". In the event you do not want WinPatrol to launch at start up, just untick that box."

    Boo hoo. :p

  15. What I don't understand

Peter's (Creer) additional registry protection still has not made it as the default, or a default option to add, it increases the efficiency as an intrusion detection application so much.

Adding full (run with UAC on for instance) registry protection in combination with the paid WP lookup service adds so much benefits to the paid version over free.

    Regards Kees

Oh that's wonderful... The tabbed UI is the perfect choice for this kind of program. Glad he dropped the MetroUI concept. :thumb:

Only for preview. Hopefully metro returns to it - properly, without the fuzzy icons.

Due to some bugs, I had to uninstall it for awhile.

Is this now out of Preview?

I noticed that there is no 'check for updates' on my About WP. I have the paid version PLUS V2013.2.2013 installed. I assume the lifetime license covers this upgrade (not crystal clear to me).

The website says that V2014 is available, but I have not seen 'new version available' popup. Maybe that is because it is still in Preview.

    Hello emmjay:

I too have lifetime licenses for WinPatrol. But I forced the 2014 update before the previous version would make notification (if it ever was).

According to BillP's website, I thought the improvements warranted a try out - auto-update or not.

WinPatrol's installation base versus negative comments after the update make it worthy of a manual update IMHO.
